Savage Mark II BTVS Ammo test 50 yards

We had 75F temperatures and wind was mild today so I did the 50 yard ammo test. Action screws were torqued to 15 inch pounds front and rear. Trigger is as low factory as the factory spring allows but I did some some polishing. Scope was a Sightron rimfire hunting scope 3 - 9 X. I tested CCI Std, Eley Target, SK Std +, SK Pistol Match Special , SK Long Range Match, and RWS R-100. Five rounds were shot into a seperate target between ammo brands to prime the barrel then four groups of 5 rounds each for the test

CCI Std and Sk Std + were about even with a center to Center of .577 and .599 respectfully. SK Pistol Match Special was the best overall with a CTC average of .432 inches.

EDIT- I forgot to add in the offset when doing the CEP numbers so the SK Pistol Match special has a 95% CEP of .334 and a 50% CEP 0f .153

I have a set of torx head action screws in the mail for action screw tuning and I may put the 36X scope back on. I have decided to leave he trigger as is but may pillar bed the stock in the future. No other mods are planned

I will probably use the rifle in the next ARA match with the SK PMS. So far I am pleased with this little $450 dollar rifle. I was torn between purchasing it or getting another CZ and decided to take a chance and I am glad I did

Nice groups Jim. l was gifted a box of SK sv on Thurs. Just had to try them out yesterday @ShootersOutdoors/50yd with my 'Shorty 457Royal' vs CCI sv. The 5shot groups were similar in size with CCI SV vs SK SV. l am thinking a torque wrench rated for ''lnch Pounds'' may be a welcome addition. Mothers Day surprise for the Wife?;-)

Update - I had some issues with the barrel touching the stock when I torqued the front action screw down that caused the groups to get really inconsistent. Turns out there was a slight gap between the front pillar and the stock and the action was tilting forward. A small flat washer between the front action screw pillar and the stock solved that. There is not really enough wood there to pillar bed, but I will bed the receiver itself and put a bit of epoxy under the action screws later this month so the action cannot pivot downward
