6 ARC vs 22 ARC brass

Killing Time

Gold $$ Contributor
Can someone explain why 22 ARC brass is longer than 6 ARC brass from the base of the shoulder to the rim base? It seems contradictory to me but I’m not as knowledgeable as most here. I have around 300 pieces of 22 ARC brass that I was going to try to neck up for my 6 ARC but that doesn’t seem feasible now.

Thanks!

You can make the 6 out of 22. You may need to trim the case though. They share the same parent case but are totally different. You can also use 6.5 Grendel to make either either one. I've been shooting the 22LBC that is the same as the 22 ARC since around 2009 using Grendel brass.

This may be where I misunderstood because I knew they had the same parent case. I’m sure there are reasons why they are different. I had always thought the cases were the same, just necked differently for each caliber. I may just have to post that brass in the classifieds.

Essentially they shortened the 6 to better fit the bigger bullets in the case to run at AR mag lengths.
