.22-.284

It's coming together! I have a Krieger HV contour 28" 8tw tube, the resizer reamer from PTG and waiting on the Chamber reamer, a bunch of Hornady 80 gr. A-Max, 8 lb. H1000 and cases/seater die/6.5X.284 FL bushing die for stepping down the neck arrived today! Threw a dummy together to see what it will look like, sorta.

Now that's gotta be a barrel burner. How many rounds before the barrel goes south. What kind of speeds can you get using the 80 grain amax?

Might want to order a 2nd barrel now, that's going to be too much fun for just one.

I made a similar cartridge in 1992 based on the 7,5x55 Swiss necked down and blown out with a 45 degree shoulder:I could reach 3800 with solid 80 grs bullets.I would think that an improved 6 mm Br necked down
would make a lot better cartridge.

I cannot say: we did the experiments in Virginia when we could come to the US that was
in 1992 1996 2001.We were the guests of the late Charlie Dell I have no idea were the rifle with two barrels ended up.I would guess with the currently available powders of today( retumbo) 1000 rounds would be reasonable. The cartridge was designed for the 94 grs. bullets kindly donated by Mike Walker.

Very cool! I owned a 22-284 during mid 90's. You can get some serious speed with 80's and punching 69 Sierra's over 4000 fps is easily achieved..

I'm sure hoping it likes H1000! QL says I should get 3600 fps at the 50's PSI. if I get 1K rounds I will be overjoyed and screw on another! ;D

Forget those barrel life comments.... shoot it like you stole it... life's too short to worry about minor things like the cost of a barrel or another ream job... burn the candle at both ends... and when you get to the middle...get another candle.... LOL.

You should get more than 3600 fps, especially with a 28" barrel, because my 22-243AI shoots good groups at 3558 fps with a 26" Brux barrel with Retumbo with 80 gr amaxes

Ya, he is right!! Your only going to live once.....just like that barrel! ...Hahajahahaha....sorry I couldn't resist ...but really brother I proud of you I hope you like it!! On a side note I have a shadow box with a lot of wildcats in it but I do not have a 22-284 so when ever you get your first cracked brass or lose primer pocket I would be honored to buy it from you for my collection! .

Best comment I have read in a long time on this site. They make barrel's every day. I subscribe to it! Mr Majestic, please keep us posted on your fun and finding's with new rifle!

I had 2...and They are a blast......BUT..the real problem is throat erosion...let me explain. The 75 gr a max or 80 gr is a really thin jacketed bullet... at 3700 f/sec here is your rotational velocity...333,000!!! While the barrel is new and smooth you MAY be able to keep this bullet together...as the throat erodes you may find that after 300 rounds or so the bullet will come apart.....more so if you let the barrel get hot. The Sierra MK has a much thicker jacket and most times will do a bit better.....Have fun ...those fast twist 22s are a blast...lately though have been shootin a .220 swift AI with a 1-9 twist with the berger 75 vlds @ 3550....and at 700 rounds still workin well
