New plan!

I just got done reading about GA Precision's logic and performance of the 6.5 RSAUM. They claim and have experienced 3K+ rounds barrel life due to operating at >55K PSI using H1000. I fired up QL and found that by keeping the Hornady 80 grain A-Max out of the doughnut and using H1000 I should get 3500 fps from a 30" tube chambered in the .22-.284 with the same pressure requirements. Got PTG spec-ing and pricing the reamer and look out Woodchucks! 8)

you realize, when you go from 6.5 to 22 you significantly INCREASE velocity of flame and such thru the throat, and the probability of getting 3000 rds from that throat are slim, with accuracy.

Mr.Majestic -

Howdy !

Yeh... what was just said, above...... I concur.

With my .22-35Rem wildcat, I shot 450rnds before I found the powder/bullet/primer combo that met my performance expectations.
Yes.... .22-284 is a more widely known wildcat, but... understand my point.

I cryo'd the barrel about 3/4 way through its life span ( dumb ), and managed to get just past 3,400rnd through the 24" Hart SS 5-groove;
before it stared to occasionally keyhole the 55SX. I had set-up the rifle for use of the 55SX, and shot the majority of the rounds through the rifle w/ 41.2gr WW760 and FED LR Magnum Match.

For a notional .22-284..... it'd be best if you find a suitable load fairly quickly, as total remaining viable barrel life span will be a thing to consider.... on the far end of load development.

MrM, several of the 6mm wildcats can shoot 105s and H1000. 4000 rounds is claimed for the 6CM (Competition Match). And the 105 AMax is a very nasty round on woodchucks out to 1000 yards and beyond.
Probably cheaper to shoot too - than the 22-284.

Bill, I don't have access to the extended ranges you have and the 105's give me the willy's with ricochets and pass through-s. I have several 8tw .243AI's and don't use them for the pre-mentioned reasons. My 14tw .243AI gets out and about with the 70 gr. BK's but mainly my .223AI with the 80 gr. A-Max gets the nod. This may turn out to be a flop if it won't shoot the 80's(I have a bunch!) with H1000 in Lapua cases but worse case I cut it down and re-chamber. In reality if the tube only goes 1K rounds at 115 Chucks a year plus range time the tube will give me 5+ years of enjoyment. On a side I was at the range the other day checking the sights on my bobbed(18 1/2" barreled) Remington 141 shooting reloads of the Hornady 180 gr. SSSP in front of Benchmark and producing sub-MOA groups(No not all :()at 200 yards! I think it wants me to take it out Chucking! ;D Only 4MOA up from the 100 yard Zero!
