22-250 question

jepp,

I‘m not declaring anything about this new barrel. My only question was to
get an opinion on the big jump I measured with the Hornady ammo. I don’t have enough rounds or experience with new barrel to say anything about it.

The FMJ’s may be sub-optimal but that’s what I have to work with. I’ve got several different loads made up and I’ll shoot those and the Hornady rounds to see what happens. As I said, tough pickins here in Pittsburgh for any good selection of reloading components.

FMJ's were never known for their guilt edge accuracy and if rifle was rebarreled 7 yrs ago you might just have a 1-14 twist in it. 55gr V-Max and A-max bullets are long bullets and just might be too long for a 1-14. I'd give some soft point or hollow point flat base bullets in the 50-55gr range a shot before giving up on the barrel.

My Rem 22-250 prefers Speer 52gr Flatbase HP's, H-380, 4320 or RL-15 all seem to shoot well in the rifle with these bullets, My Sav HB 22-250 for some reason shoots best with bulk Rem 55gr Softpoints(flatbase) w/chanelure(who'd guess)

I had the barrel done in 1:12 twist. I bought the bullets for yeoman’s duty in 223. But, again, it’s all I have. 7 years ago I was feeding it various VMax and AMax bullets. And Varget. The bullets I have now have never been shot out of this barrel.
