IS IT TOO FAST OR TOO SLOW

Going to build a 22 br.I have been pondering on the twist rate of the barrel. Would a 10 be too fast for 40gr up to 55 gr bullets and would it be too slow for the 55 up to 65 gr bullets ?
I know this has been talked to death but.
I know I will mainly shoot the 53 gr Hornady v max mixed in with a few 40's and might try some 65's.
Any education on this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

Throughout the years I hve owned a quite a few 223's and the 10 twists have have given me the best accuracy with the 40's and 50's, and the easiest to develop loads for. I use 40 gr bullets in my 223's @ 3750 near exclusively.

8 twist on mine. Literally shoots the 40 Vmax into one hole at 3750 fps. Also drives tacks with the 75 Amax for coyotes. The best of both worlds. To slow of a twist can be annoying if you like to try different bullets. The splat factor is way up there for small furry targets if you like.:D:D

I agree. The 8 & 9 twist guns tend to be the most user friendly allowing the use for bullets ranging from 40-80 including the VLDs.

Howdy !

I had one of the earliest .22BR first assembled. It was set up as a 100yd benchrest rifle, by world class bench gun 'smith Fred Sinclair.

The barrel was a 5 groove SS 1-14 Hart.

It shot the 52-53gr target bullets superbly, and also handled 55's ( Hornady 55SX SP ) just as nicely.

IMHO -
A 1-10 would be a " fast " twist rate for all of the .224" cal bullet weights you mentioned.
But hey... that's just me.
