22-250 Powder for 55 gr bullets

im looking to start reloading for my 22-250 in the near future and was wondering what you guys have had best luck with for 55 gr bullets?

i plan to try varget, H4350, H4895. i've also seen a fair amount of H380 being used.

what gives you guys the best accuracy and good velo with the 55 gr bullets?

this is a coyote rifle for me with shots being under 400 almost always and occasionally some target shooting out to 500 for fun. would like to stay at 3700+ fps from my 22" barrel

My go to 22-250 load is a stout load of H414 shooting 55 grain ballistic tips at 3700+. Shoots great out of all my current rifles and previous ones.

Any chance any of you guys are using the berger varmint bullets? How do they shoot? Easy to tune? Performance on vermin? I want a good DRT load and feel like 55 gr in the 3700+ range is good for that out to any distance I would have a shot on a yote

I have worked with H380, CFE 223, Varget, IMR 8208 XBR, and RL-17. RL-17 has been the fastest and the most accurate, by a wide margin, regardless of bullet weight. If you have a 12 twist, I recommend the 53 VMAX. It has a better bc than any of the 55's. With RL-17, my rifle is shooting the 53 VMAX in the .3's @ 3900+ from a 12 twist, 26" barrel.

If your 22-250 is a 14 twist, I would expect RL-17 to deliver similar performance with whatever bullet your rifle likes.

I had not looked at the 53 vmax. Thanks for bringing it to my attention it seems very promising. my rifle is a 12 twist so it should handle them well

numerous 22-250's all shot well with 4064 and 50/55gr SIerra BK

HOWEVER--the very best accuracy and velocity I have been able to obtain is with h414 - tried every thing else listed above and none were able to match the 414 results for velocity (55's -3700+ and accuracy- bug holes)

I wouldn't buy any just to try it, but if you have any IMR 3031 on hand give it a try. It meters poorly but myself and many others have gotten excellent accuracy with it.

My factory Rem 700 does well with Varget, Western 2700, and H380. Favorite bullet is the Sierra 53 gr. MK. Just today I loaded several with the new IMR 4166 (36.0 gr) and the same Sierras, but too windy to shoot.

IMR 4064 for me. as far as bullets go i like the 55 Sierra Blitzking. However i would love to try the 53gr. Vmax.
Honestly any of the powders mentioned are excellent choices. Alot of my decisions ultimately come down to availability.

My 12 twist Savage shoots tiny groups with 36.0 grains of Varget under 55gr Sierra Game Kings. I have several 400+ yard groundhog kills with this load.
