I will be loading the 22-250 for the first time next week-- I am not new to reloading--just this chambering--anything i need to look for??

I will be loading for a stock Howa Varmit--Looking for things like seating depth-powders-primers

Plan to use 52 & 53 Sierras to test and load the best shooting

Like to use Varget and H4895--Would like to stay away from Ball powders

Plan to use Win LR primers

Thanks in advance for the info

Looks like you got it all figured out already waterbug, those are excellent bullets, and excellent powder choices, seating depth will vary like it does in any chambering you will just have to play with it but most 22-250's I have owned, 5 right now, like IMR-4350 , and IMR-4895 and Varget, usually in that order, I have had good luck with BR2 and 210M primers, prefer Lapua brass but Winchester will work, Remington as you probably already know is JUNK!! I have had great luck with 50&55 grain Nosler BT and Hornaday V-Max and A-MAx bullets but your bullet choices are good also, mine seems to prefer a top load of powder of those listed, best of luck.

I will be curious about how your seating depth goes. I had a Howa/Wby Vanguard in .22-250 and I couldn't get close to the lands with those bullets, or any other that I tried for that matter. Mine liked Varget and H380, but was most accurate with IMR3031 for some strange reason.

Too bad on the ball powder thing........

H-380 is made for 22-250's.

Teamed with 55 grain Ballistic Tips are the makings of a lethal combo......

With the 52 MK Sierra's they are easy to tune and like a jump anywhere from .010 to .050 at least in my rifle. All depends on how your rifle is throated. I also found after extensive load development in my 22-250 that N140 outperformed all other powders at least in my rifle. A good combo of speed and very good accuracy.

I have had the best results in velocity and accurcy in mine with H414, a ball, dont discount it as it may be a good choice, i find 55 sierra bk at 3750 jumping .010 works for my chamber/bbl combo

the 52/53 are fantastic just dont open like the bk on pd.

I've shot a boat load of prairie dogs in the past with 760 (which is a twin to 414) and 55's as well.......

When loading mega quantities of PD fodder, I prefer the ball powders for their metering qualities.

I love H-380 for 22-250's and I have not really found it to be as temp sensitive as some say it is although you don't want a top load of it sitting in the dashboard all day. What I really like about it over stick powders is if your on a prairie dog hunt and run low you can load in a hurry for it at night in the motel or camp trailer, or even your bench between shots if necessary with a press and good powder drop,... meters so nice :)

You won't find Imr-4350 listed in many of the loading manuals at least for the smaller bullets, and you need a trickler and a scale but a full charge of it, clear up into the neck in my old #70 coyote w/Shilen premium match barrel will stack one on top of the other, of course this works in my rifle but I am not in anyway suggesting you try it in yours!

Why are you down on ball powders? Mine shoots H-380 better than anything else plus it meters nicely. I heard once that Bruce Hodgdon developed H-380 for 22-250's.

with light bullets 50-55 grn i always used h-380. excellent results. with heavy bullets i have been using varget and rl15. i seat against the lands with most all loads.
and whats wrong with the rem 22-250 brass? i have some that i have loaded 20+ times, i won't call that junk.

I'll 2nd the 4064 which did great in my 22-250 & so did RL-15. Did best with CCI-200 primers. Varget shot well also.

Both Varget and H4895 are excellent powders for the 22 250. H380, a ball powder, while dirty and subject to temperature variations, is another excellent powder. Two years ago I switched to IMR 4350 on the recommendation of a fellow shooter. I was skeptical but gave it a try and bingo, sub 1/2 moa consistant groups with 55 Nosler BT's.

I've had my best success, accuracy wise with 55 grain bullets, Nosler BT's and Sierra BTHP's

I like the Federal 210 match primers.

I've use both Winchester and Remington brass and like the Remington better since I get less case stretching - I don't why - but I do. However I've shot excelllent groups with both the Remingtion requiring .5 grain more powder.

Great varmint round.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket in this, but you might want to check that twist rate in the barrel, and check out a couple of powders before you load up a bunch of em.

I loaded for a Howa varminter that liked N540 & WW748, and not my usual load of H380 or WW760 for the 22-250. Found out that the twist rate was different than the others I'd loaded for. Your results may vary.

That sucker would shoot though!!! WD
