22-250 Impact Bullet Puller

I've broken a few of the kinetic pullers. I load lead semi-wadcutters for 45, and those leave nothing above the case mouth to use a collet type puller on.

I use a piece of stout 4x4 end-on to hammer against. For a 45 it often takes a dozen (or more) stout blows to remove the bullet. I find that something more solid accelerates failure in the puller (generally cracking of the plastic, but I did have the aluminum arm crack and let go on one.) Some additional foam (closed-cell) will help prevent marring the bullet when it comes out.

Seating the bullet a smidge deeper does help if the bullet is siezed in the case mouth first.

Timing the blow so the handle parallel when striking is tougher on floor, I sit down and strike beside my leg. Using wrist/forearm 2 medium strikes will move 55 gr bullets part way out of uncrimped 22-250 cases. I don't remove bullet if reseating slightly out. I have concrete floor in my reloading room. I will have to try the shell holder trick.

If three good whacks won't do it you need to evaluate your neck tension. If you have a Rock Chucker you can smack it right behind the die. No, it won't hurt the press.

I have a bunch of 22-250 loaded rounds that the Vmax is seated too deep. Just got Impact Hammer this afternoon. I knocked the heck out of the hammer on the side of a concrete wall. After thinking I was going to break the tool and also my arm. I dececied to seat the bullet a little deeper to break the case-bullet bond.. This seemed to help.
Any ideas or suggestions to make this process easier?
I want to keep bullet in case and just reseat it,
Light bullets and tight case necks can be tough. I frailed away too often.
Just don't ever try a torch!

I got another 20 done. I give up!! Holy crow.. Takes about 10 very hard hits on CMC wall. @$.17 each I think I'm going to use a pair of Klein "lineman's" with Rock Chucker and just pull the bullet and relaod.
Also going to up the charge. Been using IMR 3031 (so hard to meter into case).
Now looking for some load data. Nothing I could find with 50 gr Vmax. I'm think about upping it to 34 gr / 34.5 gr then 35 gr and see how she goes..

I've found that a foam ear plug in the inside of the inertia puller does a good job of protecting the bullet and it keeps the powder from getting into the tip of the puller.
Don't be afraid of getting agressive with the strike, but do ALWAYS wear safety glasses. My first puller was an RCBS, and the screw on cap shattered. If not for the safety glasses I would have been in the ER. I too am a fan of concrete floors as a strike surface. CMU is still flexible except right over the center web. I don't think carpet is good because it will absorb some of the energy, but a piece of cardboard will prevent abrasion if the surface of the floor is rough. It just doesn't last long.
