22-250 Components

I have decided to shoot the Winchester Model 70 Varmint 26-inch 14T as-is after much input from you 'all. The primary use for this will be rock chucks. For my enjoyment, I like red mist & itty-bitty bits and pcs. :p

Brass- I do not want to invest in Lapua or any of the other top shelf brass at this point. I want to stick with the basic everyday brass such as, R-P, Winchester, PMC, Hornady and others. I have heard good things about PMC brass.

Bullet- My thoughts are a 50-grainer, like a BT, Vmax or Blitz. I like speed!

Powder- I like what I see for Winchester StaBALL both 6.5 and Match. Is anyone used it for their 22-250?

I'm wide open for info guys!
As for brass, look at the Sig Sauer brass. Its good stuff and you can find it on sale sometimes.

My friend & I have gone to ID for 8 years now. He uses a .223AI XP-100 handgun. I use a XPR XP-100 .22-250 handgun. We,ve hunted 6 days each year and have taken a little over 3500 rockchucks. We don't even own a rifle.
For my .22-250 for over 30 years I use only AA2015, 40 gr. BTs, CCI LG primers, Win. brass mostly, but some other mixed. This gun continues to shoot 3/8" each year. I'm not changing.
Initially, I thought the wind would cause problems, so I used 50 gr. BTs at first. My friend only used 40 gr. BTs. I switched to 40 gr. 6 years ago. THis year the wind was not good- 15-35 mph each day. We both made shots out to 350 yds. with only a little hold off.
This year was unreal. Went to a new farm. First 2 hours we got 47 chucks. The rest of the trip was nonstop shooting on our older 7 farms. I'll include a pic of what 2 old guys with handguns can do. We ran out of ammo at 3PM the last day. Went to thank all the farmers. They demanded we return. Rifle guys hadn't done what we did.View attachment 1700635
I like the idea of handgunning varmints. What barrel length and what are your velocities? 2015 is my powder for 223AI, I'd never thought of it in terms of a 22-250 case. Also, what is an XPR XP 100?

Ackman, my XPR-100 has a 4 cartridge magazine, is bolt action. Remington made a few of these in different calibers in the 90s. I also have a XP-100 .22-250 that doesn't have the magazine, just a single shot. The chuck action I have in ID is so hectic that I have little time to rest between shots. The XPR lets me go faster!
I've used AA2015 for over 40 years. It's fine powder is easier to load than 4064. I just use it in my .308 handgun. Great accuracy. My barrel is 14". I don't worry about velocity. I shoot for accuracy. I'm guessing around 2900-3000 fps.

Back years ago when there was a shortage of components, I was looking to make 260 Remington, it was for a gas gun, and I didn't want to throw Lapua all over the range. Wound up with 243 PPU and ran it through 260 dies. The only issue I found was some of the flash holes were off center. Didn't seem to matter on the target

Look at the specs on StaBall. It's pressures are a fair bit more than other powders. I'll sacrifice a little velocity to hopefully protect my handguns a little looking at how much I shoot.
