22.250 balistic tips

simon,
I have read all the responses so far and agree with some and disagree with some. I have loaded for several "king of the varminters" 22-250's for 30 years. I tried H380 many years ago and found it to be just ok.
All of mine have been 14 twist guns, I shot Watson Match bullets with either of the 4895's in local club matches with great success. You mentioned you can get N140, I have been using this powder lately with equal success to the 4895's, I strongly suggest you give it a try. I shot all the bullets mentioned in this thread, but one bullet was left out, 50 grain Speer TNT, I shot these bullets over 37.0 grains of Varget and found this to be my best ground hog load, very accurate and explosive.
These are just my results, others may not agree.

Dave...

Have you tried the 55gr TNTs also. Speer says the 50's are for the slower cartridges, <3,500 fps, and they make the 55gr TNT for the 22-250 and .220 Swift.. >3,700.

I have loaded some test loads of the 55gr TNTs in both a 22-250 and a .220 Swift, but our weather folded before I got them to the range - so maybe April :(

Anyway, do you have any feed back on the 55gr TNTs??

ye cheers guys,i did try some TNT,s a few years ago, they did seem ok,but i was worried that they would come apart so didn't use them any more,i think the answer is as a few have said is send them a bit faster then the groups do tighten up as my friends in England all say they shoot there 22.250,s quite fast to keep the groups tight,i to have shot 22.250 for around 25 years with around 36,37 grains of H380 to a 50,55 grain ballistic tip and always had good accuracy, just this vssf i think now can shoot the same only when its going almost its limit, cheers again simon

CatShooter,
I have not tried the 55 grain TNT's, sorry I can't help. Yea the weather went to crap here too. I got the best velocity with accuracy with Varget and 50 grn TNT's and had no problem with speeds above 3600 FPS.
