22.250 bullet seating.

Simon6ppc....you've already figured out the real issue and the bedding isn't it. It's the chamber......and bedding won't do anything to improve it. Keep your $ in your pocket and your time in your favor. Shoot what the gun really likes and enjoy. My Rem is the same. I used to consider it as having limitations, but I don't any more. It is what it is. A great factory rifle that will shoot sub .5 with 55gr flat base bullets. I'm so glad my Rems love economical bullets.

ye your right pal,the last time i used it i did seem to sort the problem,i just havn't used it since that day, hope fully this week i will have it out again and it should be ok,ime just not 100 percent it will be.ha ha.

Bryan Litz of berger bullets has a great article on seating depth that you can pull up on Bergers web sight. I will give a quick over view with a poor mans twist. First, poor man's twist, take a resized brass and use your dremel to cut two slits at 90 degree down each side of the case neck down into the shoulder, make sure to debur edges of cut. A bullet will now slide in and out with slight finger pressure. Barely seat a bullet in brass and gently insert into chamber and close bolt and then remove slowly. Bullet will be seated by your rifling and give you your "soft jam" length. Measure that length. Start with that length and shot 3 groups seating bullet -.005" deeper with each group. You will, as everyone mentioned, find an accuracy node somewhere usually between -.010 and -.030. Now comes Mr. Litz science. accuracy is a sine wave and you can read around this sight with mention of high and low accuracy nodes with regard to velocity so it goes with seating depth. Mr. Litz's has found that accuracy repeats in @ .040" changes. So now from the previous accuracy load you just found seat your bullets -.040" (ie -.080, .120,.160) until they fit into your magazine. You will be surprised with slight tweaking to find the accuracy is there. The most profound example I had was a new rem 700 sps tactical 308 with 20" barrel. I wanted to try the 208gr amax and my mag length load was a .270" jump to rifling and the three shot magazine would group in the .3's at 100 yards. It worked very well for my 22-250 loads as well and my mag length loads group 3 shots in 1/4moa and have killed p-dogs out past 800 yards. Good luck and good shooting !!!

I load lots of rounds thru the winter for summer P-D shooting. To get around the problem of cold welding or what ever is going on I load my rounds long. Then prior to going dog shooting I run them thru to the correct length.
