22-250 AI Favorite Loads

I have fireformed my Lapua brass, and have some decent starting loads for the AI, but I was wondering what others have had success with. I am looking at bullets between 50 and 55. It's a 1:12" twist.

The load that I really like is 41grs of H380 lighted with a CCI250 mag primer using a 55 gr Nosler Ballistic tip. This load easily hits 3800. Very flat & accurate. H380 is slightly dirtier than Varget but the accuracy is great. I'm running a 10 twist Lilja barrel but 12 should be good.

No load data.....yet,but i would seriously look at the 53gr V-max with it`s high BC as my first choice.

You're right about the 53gr. I have the 50 Vmax, so I'll see how that shoots first. That load of H380 will be one that I try this weekend. Thank You.

I don't want to steal your post but I'm shooting a Kreiger (1-9") in a sporter weight barrel. I want to shoot the 69 grns . Any suggestions on powders and ranges . If I'm intruding on your post--I appologize.

More information is always better. I might get a 1:9 someday as that seems to be where the extra powder would come in handy for the heavier bullets.

On a different thread, Apache recommended the online Nosler load data generator. Many of the online sites and my manuals don't include info for the 250 AI, but Nosler does: http://www.nosler.com/Reloading-Data/22-250-Remington-Ackley-Improved-50-Grains.aspx

I recut a factory 223 tube that had a couple of small pits ahead of the existing chamber as the rifle it was on was hanging in the back window of a truck that went up in flames and melted the tenite tip of the BDL stock, discolored exterior of barrel etc. Anyhoo for giggles I recut it to 22/250AI figuring if nothing else I could use it as a fireform barrel. Nosler 50BT, Win case, WLR primer and 39gr of IMR4895 hit 3801fps and have shot sub 1/2" groups from that 'crusty' barrel'. Unbelievable really unless you actually see it shoot. Longest coyote shot has been only 387yds but had taken a number of them. Tear it apart every spring and rebuild every fall as I don't have room in my safe. One siteing in sequence a couple yrs ago I shot a .158 3 shot group with it. :) Usually grab the XC for the long stuff so have never given it a real chance to 'shine' on anything further. Been going to build a new one with new barrel but afraid this would outshoot it and give me a complex about my machining capabilities!

I shoot a 50 grn. Nosler BT in a 1 in 14" twist .22-250 A.I. with over 40 grn. of H380 at approx. 4150 ft/s. The load is warm but deadly and accurate. I shoot 80 grn. A-Maxes in a 1 in 8" twist .22-250 with a brisk load of R22 that is deadly and accurate for longer range.
