fire forming 22-250 ai Help!!!!

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
can you tell me if you can shoot factory or handloads of 22-250standard to create 22-250 ai brass? Also looking for a decent conservative load for 50-55 grain bullets.

Absolutely, any properly head spaced AI chambering should give you a slight crush fit when you close the bolt on the standard parent case, this tight fit holds the brass tight in the chamber which assist in properly forming the new case. In most instances your standard load shoots very well in your AI chamber. I'm a p-dog shooter and do all my fire forming in the field shooting dogs, no sense in wasting reloading components.

Factory loads will be fine and they can be pretty accurate. But work up a good fireform load and it'll be faster and more accurate. Start with a top end 22-250 load and go up from there.

I shoot 40 Grains of H414 with 55 Grn Noslers and have awesome results while fireforming. It shoots under 1/2" groups with the fireforming loads. I just have the bullets seated far enough out to touch the lands and shoot, shoot, shoot. My normal load after the brass is formed is 46 Grains of H414 with 55 Grn Noslers.....
