22-250 1 - 9 twist Max. bullet weight

Just wondering if 75 gr.is about maximum weight for a 1 - 9 twist in the 22-250? Hornady's latest manual says 1 - 10 or faster for their 80 gr. but I have read other info that says 75 gr. is max. for 1 - 9. Anybody got any comments or maybe some good data for this combination. Thanks, Bill

I shot a test group at Raton 1K Sunday with my 22BR using 80g Nosler match bullets,1.051" long). My 1-9" Krieger had never shot the 80's or past 500M but I was already setup so decided to give it a try. As you can see from the pic...the stability was marginal at almost perfect conditions,high alt, high humidity and cold). The other 3 shots strung out 6+" below these 7. Of course, your results may vary but I would think the 80g match bullets would be stable at closer ranges. The Amax might be another issue. My 1-7 twist 223 loves the 80Amax.

Thanks Guys. At least I know I will not be going to shoot these 75's blindly. I am going to break in my barrel and blow my brass out with this bullet and I will try about 36.0 gr of H-414. All comments appreciated. Bill

I have a Savage LRPV 1:9 twist 22-250. I getting 5 shot groups in the 1.5 to 2.250 @ 400 yards on average. My load is 40.0 grs. H4831SC, Rem. 9 1/2 primer, & 75gr. AMAX. 37.5grs. of H4831SC works well also. Semper Fi

Sounds like you got that thing tuned up man. Good shooting. How far off the lands are you seating your bullets and how much neck tension do you have if you don't mind me asking? Bill
