22-243 middlested

I have found a custom rifle with only 25 shots through it at a relatively low price chambered in said calibre. I would love to know if anyone on here has experience with it. How does is preform at range? What's barrel life like? How do you form brass? Anything you can give me I will be very happy with! Sorry for the barrage of questions. Thank you all, Josh

i have a 22/243 and i love it. i shoot 75gr bullets at 3500fps. i have gotten 3600 but accuracy suffered. i have killed everything in north texas with it at over 400yds no problems. one of my favorite guns.

I have a 22-243 middlestead. Not had it long and the weather has not allowed much load development. However what I have so far is looking good.It seems like RL-22 or maybe RL-25 will be the powder for me with 75 gr Amax.

Finally Was able to chrony my load of RL-25 and 75 gr amax today. My average was 3523 fps and very accurate. No pressure signs but I am pretty happy right there. I was able to get settings to 500 only but it did well out that far.
I think you will like your rifle.
Do you know what the twist is?

GREAT ROUND YRS BACK IT HELD ONE OF THE 1000YD RECORD HERE IN NC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Addressing your question as to how it will do "at range", your twist rate dictating choice of bullet wgts, will obviously play a major role. You may want to further check it out to determine the shoulder angle. I'd think, with the recent (to me) discussions read about turbulence point, the 40° would be easier on the throat. Also, I do not know how long the Cheetah's neck is compared to the .243. If it is longer, you may pick up some wear mileage b/c of better turbulence point. If the 40° dies don't come with it, you may weigh rechambering cost in something a bit more main stream against die cost and bbl life, depending if you plan on doing a couple of K rounds every 12-18 months. Who was the bbl mfr? How long is it? You'd probably like bbl length to be medium to long for more powder choices and velocity.

Tell us what you find out and decide to do - always interesting - especially in the winter......

I'm shooting a 22-243 Middlestead with an 8 twist. Some say barrel burner but mine is at 800rds and I havnt had to chase the lands yet. I run RL25,IMR7828, and Retumbo under nearly every 80gr 22 cal bullet made. I consistently run them in the 3550-3600 range so I'm not running mid-range loads. It may not have the barrel life of a 308 but I can easily see 1500rds.

My Hornady book has 22-6mm load data. I reduced and started there for my 22-243 middlestead. RL-25 has been the best powder for me with 75 amax. Be sure to start low with that data as 6mm is somewhat bigger but it gives you an idea at least.
