22-204 or 222 mag

Not even close except case length. Shoulder has been pushed forward, changed to 30*, with short neck, and minimal case taper. Case capacity is equal to, or a hair more than a 223 Ackley w/o the need to fireform.....win/win.

What brass are you running alf?

Main reason I love .223AI is the abundance of great, cheap brass. Fire form loads shoot killer too and have been really easy to work up.

Having said that, I really think Hornady should Saami a .22-204 with a fast twist. Would give the Valkyrie a run for her money.

All run W-W brass, except the last one that I use Nosler in. Both work well.

I hesitate to even post any more about the 22-204, as it just seems to bring out a lot of hate from others.
I HOPE U R NOT REFERRING TO ME, as I just compaired prints & added what I thought about the 2 cases. I thought it was an open discussion, just my 2cents. absolutely no hate here.

I'll try not to hate on the .22-204 too much I promise....;)

Alf, I'm a believer, I've been killing coyotes for 10 yrs with one, with 40gr NBT's it is my favorite pelt hunting rig. I even have my own Reamer to rechamber 223 barrels when I need a new one..

This guy got a little beat up as I was experimenting with 50gr Varmit Genades and got a little to close to the edges.

I use mainly Win and Hornady brass, I also shoot a 6mm-204(set up for shooting lead frees) and a 25-204 as my deer rifle(matches factory 250 Sav and 257R ballistics, 100gr NPT at 2850 fps) pretty much a clone of the old 257 Kimber with no fire forming.

Yup, you, me, and maybe one other are believers, the rest want to argue.....ha ha.....

The 75 VLD's are all I used for coyotes until last year, when I test drove the 80 VLD's at 3025 into a few coyotes.

I have one set up as strictly a LR plinker........

Count me as a believer. I don't mind fireforming, but I can certainly see why some don't wanna deal with it.

Alf, I want more specifics please, you know, like fps, barrel lengths, twist's. etc.

Say, by how much is there gain over 223AI?

I have a 223 bolt faced bench rifle I'd want to put some cool cartridge in for long range with heavies.
