21 days straight

Preacher

21 days straight of setting in the condo watching lots of does, and small bucks doing what they do all day, and then in a matter of seconds I have a decent 8 point on the ground. Not my best, but after 2 years of no venison in the freezer cause I get to darn picky I'll take this one no problem....
Thats my 25/284 XP-100 shooting 115 Berger VLD's..
It was a pretty close shot at about 125 yards.
It's been a tough season with temps in the 60's and winds out of the East most of the time....

AW dog gonnit I was looking forward to another long thread of Preachers hunt ::) just Kidding congrats he will do just fine my friend.
Wayne.

Bruce, job well done and I havent seen much of anything with all the wind up here by lake ontario. It has been the worst season I can ever remember.

This year has been bad in Texas too. The heat and lackof rain has played havic on our herd.

Nice going Bruce. I know you enjoy sitting in that condo, even if it is completely opposite weather than last year.

Sounds like the weather has been unusual all across the country. It's been rough here in NC as well.

Great job Preacher, congrats. Bigger than anything I've seen this year. I do have a cpl of doe's picked out tho. They are going down next week. I'm getting hungry, and I still have not figured out how to fix those horns to taste good. :o ;D

Very nice Preacher. You going for sausage? I got a sow hog last evening of bow season and a nice 8 pt opening morning. Made 140 pounds of sausage and filled bottom half of freezer. Wife is waiting on a 175 class 10 pt we have lots of pictures of. Maybe he will show during the 2nd rut that starts here in a few days. I guess I need to shoot one with a nice pistol. Never done that.

To answer a few..
No the pistol don't recoil much at all with that Harrells brake, on 10X I can see my hits out to 300 yards.
90% of the deer will end up as jerky, and the straps are for breakfast...
I set up there every day for at least 9 hours, and this year have mostly watched them come in and bed down for hours on end, and then get up and stretch and go right back down again till just before dark when they pop up and start feeding again.. I've seen 5 other real small bucks in all that time this year.
The big drop tine was killed the day before gun season opened with a bow a 1/2 mile from here 'O(
My hunting buddy Mike killed the big 10 point that was nothing but a bag of bones a week ago, and thats the only buck he has seen this year..
I did manage to get a lot of interacting photo's of one big doe and her doe fawn....
She was grooming momma and decided she could do it better if she was on top, then momma said enoughs, enough.... This happened on a daily basis...
I have a doe tag and my 7mm SAUM ready to go for the last day, lets see what happens with that..

Those little ones are cute. Let them grow and then blow them away.

Nice buck. Looks like you have fun with your shooting. I like that. To me it's all about the shot.

May you have big bucks and more fun in the future.

Echo the tough season sentiments all around. I did not fare well.

Preacherman, Way to go, nice buck for the freezer, great pix and a 21 day sabbatical ta boot.

Thanks for sharing..

Preacher, Good shootin' and congrats on the buck. We had pretty much the same deal here in SE PA. Weather was too warm first day. They snoozed & then fed at night. Heard the same from the mountain hunters. It'll be interesting to see the numbers for this year's buck season. Good luck with the baldies.

Well the season is over and I put a nice doe in the barn with the 7SAUM yesterday at noon.
7 doe's came up from below and trotted by at about 115 yard, the last one stopped for a second, bad move on her part.......
A 140 grain Ballistic Tip caught her high in the shoulder and dropped her right there.
I'll miss being up there......

Good looking doe and rifle. Congrats.

A Ballistic Tip through the shoulder is typically pretty doggone fatal, pretty doggone fast.

Everywhere the story has been the same, little daylight deer movement. Hunted my brains (what little left) out in Michigan without seeing a great buck. Shot a decent 8 (110 B & C)but never really saw anything that really cranked me up. Just got done with a muzzleloading stint that only yielded small bucks & does/fawns. They really don't need to move much in 50 degree weather & all of our openers this year have been on a full moon.
