20VT Suggestion

What bullet do you shoot?
If this question is for me, I shoot 32 Hornady but the 32 Sierra gives a touch better accuracy but the cost is much more for volume shooting like PD’s, so I am happy with Hornady. I load 10 to 20 off the lands.

What is everyone’s thoughts on the 32’s or 39’s pinning a coyote to the ground? I realize it’s about shot placement but hate watching them run off.
I shoot the 39 bk. Found that the 32 blow up on the out side of a coyote. Most 39 go in but dont come out best fur load for me.

Got a question for the 20VT guys. Once I got the brass fire formed I like to start out doing a powder test to see where it likes to be on powder, so I did the Satterlee test with H4198 starting at 17.9 to 18.9 and can’t seem to find a node where really likes it. I’ve done this test many times but not with this small of a case but usually can find a couple nodes where it really likes the powder charge. This was done with a Hornady 32gr z-max with all bullets seated just shy of touching. It may not like H4198 and that’s what it’s telling me. Any suggestions?
17.9-3605
18.0-3562
18.1-3596
18.2-3662
18.3-3640
18.4-3691
18.5-3712
18.6-3734
18.7-3763
18.8-3779
18.9-3847
In doing this test on every caliber I’ve messed with there will be 2 to 3 nodes (depending on how broad a powder range) that the velocity flattens out and is very consistent.
Change bullets.

What is starting load and max load with CFE BLK and 32gr bullet in most 20VT’s.
Based on posts I've found here for CFE BLK a couple liked loads for 32 grain bullets would be 18.6 grains gives you about 3670 fps, and 19.8 at 3750 fps, but those are NOT loads I've tried, so start low and work up.

I did find some CFE BLK and loaded up some 32gr Z-max with 18.3grs and it shot ok but could tell it needed more. The velocity was 3533fps out of a Krieger 11 twist cut to 23”. I’m gonna bump it up to 18.8 or 18.9 and try again. This load is for my sons rifle and you may need to start lower in yours.

What is the recommended accuracy load with AA 2200 and 32gr bullets. I will start less and work up but was curious what is the go to powder charge.

My best AA 2200 load so far is 20.1 grains. I tested 19.5, 19.7, 19.9, 20.1, 20.2 and 20.3 and show target below. I did have a bit of wind shifting and such, but that's the one and only ladder test so far on AA 2200.

during this shortage when cci450's were hard to come by, I had the opportunity to purchase 6k of 7 1/2's and tried them in several of my squirrel guns. I can tell you that side by side comparison, they are either softer material or thinner cups as I had more primmer flow than I do with the cci450's. I also had to increase the powder charge in order to stay at the same velocity and accuracy. I was happy to have the 7 1/2's as it gave me something to shoot, but my first choice will always be the 450's

I've tested 7.5's and 450's in my 20VT, 20SCC 20 Prac, 20PPC all 17 cals and 7.5's shot better. Now in my 20 BRAI 450's won out.
Its definitely worth trying different primers, ive never got 400's to shoot that well.

Hey Sherm, I do have some Rem 7.5's but only about 400, so I was testing with what I have most of, which is CCI 400's. I was able to buy 1000 450 primers and got them last weekend, but was sticking with what I had the most of, in hopes of finding a stellar load I could make a lot of. Since I now have some 450 magnum primers I might try those next. I've only shot the rifle 3 times so far, so I hadn't gotten to the primer comparison stage.
