20PPC shooters/HELP!!!

Going to build a 20ppc soon.
Leaning toward the 9T and shooting the 50g bullets.
How does the 9T shoot the 39 AND 40 grain bullets?
Going to build on an old BAT S/RT-LEFT- RT glued into a Bruno/Mc BR stock.
This gun will be used for punching paper and having fun....
Lets hear the good , bad and ugly.

THANKS SCOT G

Re: 20cal 9T/with 39g serr.

Sounds like it should work. You can over spin a bullet a lot more than nessary and still get good accuracy than you can under spin one and get good accuracy.

Re: 20cal 9T/with 39g serr.

I agree with that Catfish.
Im sure there are many shooting a 20ppc...
Im wanting to build one right the first time...
just looking for alittle help.
Been looking at barrels and there seems to be many to choose from.
I have had the vartarg 11T PACNOR. Now have a 20 TAC on the old V.T. barrel.
Barrel has 2000+ down the tube and still shoots very good.
THANK YOU CATFISH FOR YOUR POST.

I would take a long look a the .20BR for shooting the 50`s...

I LOVE my .20PPC BUT it is only used for the 39gr. bullets,i have a .20BR used for the 39`s as well and a .20BRX being built to handle the 50-55gr bullets.

Not saying the PPC won`t work,i think you`ll be happier using the heavies with a little more case capacity.

Listen to Phil.

The 20ppc shouldn't be discounted for the heavies,... it will safely run 3600+ with the 50's, and I have safely run 55's (and custom 53's) at over 3700,...... not sure how much faster you want to go, but the ppc is crazy efficent with these projectiles. Varget,... RL15,... similar burnrates work well. If you really want to have some interesting performance,... try RL17. Anyway,... great for heavies as well as the lighter pills. Not to say it will run with the BR,... but to get a lot more velocity than the PPC can generate "safely", you need a lot more case capacity.

I agree with Rifle1, I have a 1-9tw 20ppc and can run 50's easily over 3600fps without trashing the brass. Mine is a 237nk no turn chamber set up to use 220 Russian brass and was built by Kevin Weaver. I also have a Sako A1 chambered in 20ppc that was originally a 6ppc repeater that someone cut the original barrel down and I rebarreled. It also has a 1-9tw Pacnor on it and shoots everything I've fed it, even 32's which I use to fireform brass with plus feeds from the magazine. I think it really comes down to preference and the donor your using. Obviously using a BR case makes a lot of sense as to boltface and donor choices.

I have a friend that has shot many groups in the .1s with an 11 twsit (I think).20 PPC, with 133 and 40 grain Bergers. The rifle is as far as you can go in all of its details, having started out as a competitive benchrest rifle that was built for his own use by Butch Fisher (inventor of Butch's Bore Shine) and then rebarreled before being sold. Since it is no longer used in competition (no weight restriction), a high powered Nightforce scope was fitted. Currently it is the most extreme small caliber squirrel rifle that I know of.

QuickLoad indicates that the PPC will get within about 100 ft/sec of the 20 BR with both 50 & 55 gr bullets when they are run at the same pressures.

The main gotcha is that the 55 gr bullets like a fast twist.

The ppc will shoot the 50 but I found that the 40 gr Max will kill varmints out to 600 yards. I really think the 50 is better suited to the br case.
