I shoot a cheap Thompson Center Venture, topped with a Maven 5-30x56. I only shoot factory Hornady 40-grain V-Max at 3900 fps. No coyote or groundhog has a chance out to 400 yards, all will be drt. Three hundred groundhogs plus last year, and about a dozen coyotes. My trigger breaks at 8oz, not for novices,1 in 10 twist rate.If you don't need to go north of 400 yards, it's a winner. Armchair experts, I await your interjections against it.LOLany one shooting ground hogs and how do you like it so far.also what loads are you using
I have a TC Venture predator model 204 Ruger. Camo flutted bull barrel. Topped with a Nikon Buckmaster 6x18x40mm target dot scope. I wouldn't sell mine. That is a little killing machine. I run H4895 with a Berger 35gr bullet. Or RL10 is very good in the 204. I only Berger bullets anymore. I have Nosler and Hornady 20 cal bullets. But that 35gr bullet is bad medicine on hogs coyotes and armadillo's. . I have Berger bullets in 30gr 35gr and 40gr. Haven't worked up a load with the 30gr. Plus when I bought my 204 I bought enough magazine to last a life time.I shoot a cheap Thompson Center Venture, topped with a Maven 5-30x56. I only shoot factory Hornady 40-grain V-Max at 3900 fps. The TC Venture is a sleeper for sure. I'd never sell mine. They did right by going to a 1'10 twist rate. I've shot the 24 Hornady NTX, and I can assure you it kills at about 4400 fps. The 32, 40 all shoot as well; even Hornady's 45-grain soft point, stacked them on each other at 100 yards, benched.I have a TC Venture predator model 204 Ruger. Camo flutted bull barrel.
