204 ruger

Pawgs here. I have 3 204's Love em. 32's, 40's, 35's, 39's. All work. IMR 8208, Staball 6.5, StaBall Match, R10. Do a google search. Tons of info out there.

any one shooting ground hogs and how do you like it so far.also what loads are you using
I shoot a cheap Thompson Center Venture, topped with a Maven 5-30x56. I only shoot factory Hornady 40-grain V-Max at 3900 fps. No coyote or groundhog has a chance out to 400 yards, all will be drt. Three hundred groundhogs plus last year, and about a dozen coyotes. My trigger breaks at 8oz, not for novices,1 in 10 twist rate.If you don't need to go north of 400 yards, it's a winner. Armchair experts, I await your interjections against it.LOL

I have a TC Venture predator model 204 Ruger. Camo flutted bull barrel. Topped with a Nikon Buckmaster 6x18x40mm target dot scope. I wouldn't sell mine. That is a little killing machine. I run H4895 with a Berger 35gr bullet. Or RL10 is very good in the 204. I only Berger bullets anymore. I have Nosler and Hornady 20 cal bullets. But that 35gr bullet is bad medicine on hogs coyotes and armadillo's. . I have Berger bullets in 30gr 35gr and 40gr. Haven't worked up a load with the 30gr. Plus when I bought my 204 I bought enough magazine to last a life time.

The TC Venture is a sleeper for sure. I'd never sell mine. They did right by going to a 1'10 twist rate. I've shot the 24 Hornady NTX, and I can assure you it kills at about 4400 fps. The 32, 40 all shoot as well; even Hornady's 45-grain soft point, stacked them on each other at 100 yards, benched.

I’ve shot 204r since it came out. Had 3 diff rifles over the years. I mostly shoot a 20-222 now. I had killed a lot of varmints w mine. I bought a ruger 77 vt brand new 2004-05 and it’s the best 650$ I ever spent In my life. lol I have shot lots of powders listed, everyone shot well. H4895,benchmark,rl10x stood out to me. The greatest crow lazerbeam I ever had. IMO the 39gr sierra bk is king. 45gr hornady sp a real smasher. I shot a handful of chucks and crows w 39gr Speer tnt and man did they blow guts out! Have fun w yours. I’d never be w out a good 20. NEVER. Very fun cartridge. Best load I ever shot was 24.6 10x 39gr BK. Cheers
