204 ruger with light load or 20 Vartarg for 20 Vartarg velocities

If a shooter is happy with 20 VarTarg velocities & appreciates the barrel life of the slower round, Would downloading a 204 Ruger be a viable option for the 204 Ruger? Could a shooter realize anything close to 20 VarTarg barrel life if they were to reduce 204 Ruger velocities to similar to the 20 VT velocity? If so what propellants should a guy be considering w moderate velocity & barrel life in mind?

Too much confusion for me. I stayed with the 20VT. If you don't have a 20VT yet, I would go 20 Fireball. For me now, it's the simpler the better.

I understand the question I just don’t understand why.
I purpose built both. The 204 is fed a diet of 39-40 grain bullets. The 20VT is fed 32-34’s.
I chase accuracy WITH speed. The VT can do well with the light bullets as far as speed. It does not impress me with the heavier in the speed department.
I like/want the acrobatics from the speed.

Worrying about barrel life, keep a decent track of either one mentioned and report back when it is toast. They are threaded for a reason.

Most folks that ask/talk about barrel life don’t shoot near as much as they think they do.

I’ve had several 204’s and they all seemed to perform better at close to maximum loads. In my experience 3000 plus from a factory barrel and 4000 plus from a custom barrel are attainable with proper care. I keep my barrels clean and I don’t overheat! I have a couple 20VT rifles but no idea how many rounds I will get from them. I expect 5000 plus.
