204 loads ?

I just bought a 204 and just started reloading, so my question is what are some good starter loads for my gun?

I have a Remington 700 24" barrel, I think its a 12 twist, and I want to shoot 39gr sierra bk for varmints and 40gr berger match for target shooting.

Any info would be appreciated!! If you need any more info on my equipment let me know thanks guys.

oh and I have hornady brass and cci 450 primers but willing to change.

Here is a great sight for 204 info.http://www.rugerhunting.com/
Personally I use 27.6 grs Varget,ww Brass,CCI Bench rest primers and the Sierra 39 gr. Blitz King which gets me 3690 fps out of my Remington 204 w/ 26" barrel. This load will shoot consistent 1/2' at 200 yds.start the varget load lower than above and watch for signs of pleasure.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out rugerhunting. How much difference will there be in the 24" and 26" barrels? Any experience with the Berger bullets?

I use 27gr of hodgdon Benchmark, 32gr v-max, win brass, and win primers.

Holes that touch at 100yds out of an Encore Pro-Hunter.

Prime use is starling control. :thumb:

Can't give you any info on the Berger 40 gr., but the Sierra 39 gr. BK are super accurate with:

H4895, REM 7 1/2 Primer in W-W cases.

Best load for me is with H335, 32 Sierra Blitz, Win brass and primers. Watch out for both copper and carbon fouling. Most guys clean for copper but carbon is just as bad. Hornady bullets foul the fastest. Nosler not much better. Best factory load has been Remington 32 AccuTips.

The Horns that i have used are not as good as Berger, but I haven't found a better load than H4895-26.2, Horn brass, rem 7 1/2 primers, and sierra 39 grn. It stacks well. I haven't went with the 32 grns though. I have a factory howa 1500.

My current favorite load with my HS precision is the Nosler Ballistic tip in 40gr over 27gr of Varget.
I have the same load in a 40gr Berger that I want to try out in my new CZ 527 Varmint. Not sure when I'll get on that but I'll be sure to tell you gentlemen how it goes. FS

I have had great success with 26.5 of benchmark and the 35 grain Bergers and BR-4 primers. Very accurate and seems to be right on a node. I am going to try the wolf small mag primers to see if they will work as well. I have a savage 12fv in a savage laminate stock.

I have a Remington VLS that loves 27 grns of Ramshot TAC with 205m primers.
I have a CZ that does just as well with 27 grns of H4895 with Rem 7 1/2 primers.
Both loads have found to be very consistent.

Both loads are for the Sierra 39gr.

I've posted these here before. Here you go.

35 bergers, 25.5 gr of RL-10X and 26.8 gr of benchmark
40 bergers and 40 V-max, 24.5 gr RL-10X and 25.5 gr of H-4895
39 sierra BK and 40 gr Nosler, 25 gr RL-10X and 27.5 gr of H-4895
32 V-max and 32 gr nosler, 26 gr RL-10X and 27 gr H-322
26 gr varmint grenade, 26.3 gr RL-10X and 23.3 gr H-4198
45 gr hornady sp, 24.3 gr RL 10X

All of these loads will generally print out 1/2' groups or better out of both of my savage 204's.
These loads may not work in your gun so REMEMBER to start below these and work your way up at approx .2 to .3 gr at a time.

39gr SBK, with a combo of RE-10X and REM 7 1/2 Primers.

35 or 40gr Berger, with combo of H4895 and REM 7 1/2 Primers.

For this load what are you using for OAL? I am new with Berger Bullets.

H4895,benchmark,reloader10x have been my favorites. 24.6 10x w sierra 39gr is a driller. BR4,cci450m,7 1/2’s all work well. Crows detonate. Gotta try and see what works for. Great fun

I have used H4895 RL10 Tac. With berger 35 40 and some 30 gr hp.
My load right now.
H4895
Winchester brass
Remington 7 1/2 powder
35gr Berger

Some (like H4198 and Varmint) are really tough to get, though Accurate LT32, H322 and Reloader 7 are a few I'd try first. I now run LT32.
