.204 heavy barrel

Looking for some input but would it be practical to even think of putting a 1.125 Heavy barrel in .204 cal. I have a 700 stainless action 223 bolt face and thinking of the monster barrel, any input would be appreciated.

I shoot four different 204R varmint rifles, bench rigs and walkabout, and just have to ask: "Why?"

Do you have a specific application for wanting such a very HB in a 204?

LOL well would like to use it for bench something very heave for my grandson to have NO recoil and I think in a bench rest stock it would be something very different and fun to shoot

For bench shooting, go BIG or go home! Nothing like a straight pipe to help tame recoil. Get someone to pack it to the bench for you and have at it! 8) 8)

I have an action that is .500 shorter than a Rem. Model 7 and it wears a Pac Nor #8.......Not that it matters... :o

Its FUN!!!!!

Heavy, but fun....I just use it as a bench gun so i don`t mind the extra weight, i had to add weight to the butt to get it to balance too.....

I have a 26” factory varmint barreled Remington 700 VLS and a no taper 23” T/C Contender in .204 Ruger. As to recoil, there practically isn’t any. I’ve never missed a misting watching at 20x.

If you want no recoil and still have a gun that could be carried for hunting - then put a 20 Vartarg barrel on your action. More work to get brass prepped initially - but burns about 9 grains less powder than a .204, has virtually no recoil even in a sporter and is very accurate. Just my two cents. I own both calibers and both shoot well, but the Vartarg has less muzzle blast and still gets good velocity with 1/3 less powder.

Why not a 221 FB? No recoil -- brass is easy (lapua this spring) if it has to be a .20 why not the .20 practical (lots of cheap brass)

I shoot/load 3 20 cal's...all heavy portable table guns...
All Salvage s/shots...20 VT rechambered from 204R..now 26" finished

Pic shown is the 20BR.....now is the 20-222.....9 twist/3 groove Pac-Nor tube...started out at 28"...now finished just short of 26"...still weighs 17#-7oz..glass is Vortex PST SFP 6-24....Choate Varminter stock w/added lead shot in grip cavity to keep recoil jump down.... ;D Anxious to try out the new Duece-20 on the p/dogs in May...have 600 cases formed/loaded from 222 Lapua & LC 223...anyone looking for a mild mannered 20 cal....right in between the 20 VT & 20 PT...

That is one sweet rig ;D and something I am looking into, spoke to Pac-Nor yesterday and all I need to do is commit and he will hook me up. I think I will wait a bit perhaps I can find something used for a good price.

Just for a fun bench rig, you would be hard pressed to do better than a good used 222 benchrest rig. Call Bob White at Shooter's Corner (think that is correct) and he will hook you up, great guy with lots of good used stuff.

Thanks SmokinJoe I have dealt with Bob in the past great guy, I have a 40x 222 with heavy Hart barrel and its a dream to shoot so I need a 20 cal now

Considering the accuracy of the parents, Ive been thinking on doing a .20 PPC. Little bit more capacity than the .204 and should be as accurate as possible if the rifles built right.

my 20 ppc shoots very well with 50gr bergers or 39 sierra blitzkings. it is right at 17lbs and has a Hart 9 twist max heavy varmint barrel that is 1.25 for 6 inches tapering to .940 at the muzzle at 26 inches. i have shot several groups in the .2 and .3 range at 200 yards. groundhogs have been taken past 600yds with this setup.
