2020 Primer shortage

Stumbled on a site this morning while doing the daily search for primers. Seems someone is trying to use this opportunity to carry out fraud and hacking. There is a site called GunBot.net that comes up at the top of the list on a google search for primers. Says that everything is in stock. Beware of clicking on anything. MACs will warn you that the site is attempting to gain access to your data. Not sure if PCs do. Do NOT click on any links the site directs you to.

Hummm , I've been using gun bot for many years to find ammo. Have it on my phone right now.
Chrome doesn't say anything suspicious going on.

Perhaps they were hacked. Some links were working fine, most of all the primer links produced this error:

Gunbot has been providing bogus stock data for months. There's no point in using it. Most of those errors (such as the screenshot above) are related to the vendors going out of business/selling (or losing) domains, etc.

Gunbot is nothing more than a search engine. Sites are going to be out of product almost immediately by the time you place an order. This all about people hoarding. Be patient it'll all comeback as soon as Trump gets re-elected!

Without getting into details on how these sites work, it's a bit more involved than that (or less, actually - these scraping sites are orders of magnitude less developed than the leading search engines). Gunbot has been broken for quite some time, and the administrators are not fixing it. I would not use it, the results are invalid/bogus.

What does Trump have to do with any of this? Stop adding political trash into conversations that have nothing to do with politics.

Use AMMOSEEK.com it works just fine. Gunbot use to work I am not sure how accurate it is now but it was a decent site. Gunbot was never out to screw anyone its a free site I use to use it for years prices it found were usually better then AMMOSEEK ...

Alot - the political climate is the cause of the shortage so it's relevant

I typed up paragraphs regarding covid/civil unrest leading to the panic buying (and scalpers) that's currently driving the shortage, but then realized I was drifting down the same road I'm trying to avoid reading in all of the threads I visit here. I'll bow out of the thread, I don't want to continue to derail things. Sorry OP, I just get disappointed when I see forums I find extremely useful/valuable turn into a podium for people to push their political agendas.

I dont think it has anything to do with politics but is more a result of a broken supply chain due to COVID-19. Ammo companies are using available primers to catch up.
The return to normal stocking levels will depend on ammo manufacturers catching up.
You may call me a hoarder but I have enough to last 3-4 shooting seasons at least. Not sorry

I am always curious at what hoarding is. I have a six month supply on hand, but have basically stopped shooting. I have less than 2 bricks but some would call that hoarding??? My dad used to keep greater than 10k of each type on hand due to the multiple shortages.

What this notice is telling you is that the security certificate associated with the site is expired/out of spec/nonexistent. Recently many browsers adopted a shorter term certificate and sites with the older longer term will come up as junk. This is not necessarily an indicator of the site being malicious. Many smaller site owners/hosting companies may not have reacted in time. I’m definitely not advocating using your credit card on a non-ssl site, but you should know there is more to the puzzle. I agree 100 percent,it's the supply chain and where components are being used . I find all the hoarding claims hilarious . I have enough supplies for the 3 shooters in my family to last us 10 years ,that's shooting every weekend year round with no skimping...and I still bought bullets and primers yesterday . Folks can call that hoarding all they want, but I won't hear it over the gun fire.

A friend went to a gun show last week looking for primers and they were selling them for $100 a thousand. That's 10 cent apiece!

I bought a few cases of Winchester primers back in the Clinton era when there was a rumor going around that they were going to make them with a shelf life. $11.62/1000. Imagine that. Still have some.

What exactly do you mean that the current primer shortage is a supply chain issue and exactly when did this issue first occur?

Here's an idea, when you plan screwing on a new barrel, buy enough primers for that barrel life. I try to do this. I'm not always successful, but I don't fail every time either.

This is an excerpt from Vista Outdoors Inc.’s most recent 10Q. I think they have an accurate and clear view of the situation as it relates to ammunition sales in the US!

“We expect that during our fiscal year 2021 demand for hunting and shooting-sports related products will be influenced by the 2020 United States presidential election cycle, the COVID-19 pandemic, nationwide civil unrest and their associated impacts on general economic and retail conditions.”
