I don't understand all the fussing about carpet. I have used berber, low pile and for the last few years, industrial indoor/outdoor carpet. I have even shot off the flap on my mat with a carpeted board under it. I have had carpet in the past that tracked to a degree and I hated it.

Adapt and overcome.

No, I don’t think there’s any bullying involved at all. So as mentioned above, there is a more restrictive International mat rule that is going to apply at the 2021 World match. Is it not basically what this bulletin now requires, changes that are not well received?

I don’t know how many, but probably quite a number of TR shooters are going to attend that match and shoot both on teams and as individuals. At some point they need full blown dress rehearsals, but they are also shooting really well off their current set up. Captains may be refining team positions, etc etc, while guys are still chasing personal bests under status quo.

This clamp down solves a lot of problems whether by design or by coincidence. TR shooters will shoot like they must at worlds, and the ones who are going will not have to shoot handicapped relative to the 2/3 or half of national shooters not going to South Africa.

And, in a way I have to agree. IMO he's not facilitating a change...he is just forcing a correction. Mid is the only person in the global shooting community that has the stature to call a halt to what has gradually become just short of a traditional abuse of a long standing F-TR rule. I can only hope that he would get on board with promoting and lobbying to the NRA for deletion of a F-O rule against groove tracking with a F-O bipod that really has not been around that long?

I'm just sitting here with my SEB Joypod, modified with chic Dan Polable skate-feet and a moderately high pile, very trackable carpet situated on a 1/2 inch thick rubber base, waiting for the go ahead.

Warren, yes, you read my post correctly. I do believe that. I don’t think there is anything wrong with input from others, by the way, I simply believe the bug in the ear on mats this year has come from within TR, for those reasons I mentioned. I think it is a delicate subject because shooters going to South Africa actually need the bulletin’s mat practice, and no others do.

I had previously posted early on that there is absolutely no way that you can put ski feet on a carpet, and not form grooves. Yet the rule changes of past permitted “carpet” specifically, and permitted ski feet, whereas I recall mention of bipod contact by two points in prior versions. So, the timing of a “correction” is a valid question, especially since gear was bought.

I was present at the Berger huddle on this subject. It seemed to single out without naming a certain generous sponsor of that match’s prize table who has helped Fclass immensely, and in my opinion been right on every design element he ever incorporated.

I further know that one individual asked the NRA no less than one dozen times about a rest design plan, for more than one year without a single response.

I also agree with Skip on this excerpt from page 2. “It is the act of editing of a rule before a big match to make happy a certain individual or crowd of people for what they will consider to be an advantage to themselves.”

Without my carpet I'll be lucky to shoot over a 180 at LR.

Crossfires will be the new norm, as the rifles will hop 10 lanes over on recoil.

This is like the restrictor plate of F-Class.

At least we can continue our magic carpet rides at local club matches until this is officially adopted by the NRA. We got that going for us, right?

So somebody cheated at a national event by turning a rubber trailer mat over exposing the longitudinal pattern cut into the rubber mat designed to allow pee to run out but also to allow 3/8" diameter ski feet to fit nicely into said longitudinal cut pee channels hidden, well sort of hidden (should have had a bigger piece of carpet to cover all mat edges) by a piece of long pile carpet thereby creating guiding channels?

If this was witnessed at a national event, why was it not addressed at the time of the match and a DQ issued then? The picture in question clearly shows intent to create guide channels. Or do most people try to cheat the system and stayed silent until somebody got butthurt?

I must say there's nothing funnier than watching a bunch of my fellow Texans talking about skis and bipods.

In my misspent youth in Canada, I was an expert skier; I lived and breathed ski and ski-related stuff all the time. During the 4 weeks of summer that exists in Canada, I waterskied. In the 13 months/year of winter, I downhill skied. I spent some time doing cross-country skiing, but that was boring, just not enough speed. My favorite discipline was Downhill racing and if I couldn't do that, GS was the next best thing.

I didn't skate a whole lot, but I did have skates and I know the difference between a skate and a ski.

When I read here that people call Ran Pohlabel's feet for the Joypod, "skis", I have to laugh. Those are skates. The original feet on the Joy-pod are skis, much like ordinary downhill skis and water-skis. The new feet from Seb are like cross-country skis. They are not skates.

Think for the feet of the Sinclair bipod as snowshoes, another artifact with which I am familiar, but I hate like the dickens. It's hard on the inner thighs.

I don't believe the rubber channels are the main issue. I doubt they're being utilized through the carpet backing and thick fibers. Granted, it is suspicious he has that one layer groove side up.

I think the bigger issue is that narrow feet('rails' or 'skate blades') and soft thick shag allow 'tracking' in the carpet itself. Thin nap carpet with wide feet can be fine without any tracking so it has been tough to call someone for using carpet.

3.4.1 Rifle Rests - (a) F-Class Open Rifle (F-O) - The F-Open rifle may be supported by a front rest bag, which may be fully adjustable for position but may not provide a positive mechanical method for returning the rifle to itts prior point of aim from the previous shot.

Can some one please explain this to me, I honestly want to know, and I am not trying to troll this thread. How does this rule reconcile with the way F-Open is shot today?

I witnessed a F-Open shooter at a match once fire several shots at his target without ever looking through his rifle scope; fire, load a round, push rifle to stop, and fire again only looking through his spotter. How does this meet the requirements of this rule? And if this is okay, why are we even discussing tracks in carpet?

Now I will have to agree that the slotted horse mat does pose some problems, what kind of bipod was used? This certainly would not work with the scissor type bipods, the slots would have to be adjustable for width. I digress.

Please explain.
