2018 Smallbore F-Class Championships

American Smallbore Shooting Association is pleased to announce that smallbore F-class championships will be conducted in parallel with the 2018 ASSA Smallbore Prone Championships at The Cardinal Center.

This will be the first time that a smallbore F-class championship has been conducted in the United States. ASSA is pleased to be supporting this smallbore rifle discipline which shares many of the fundamentals of sling shooting prone and is fired on metric targets at 50 and 100 meters.

The 2018 ASSA Smallbore Rifle Championships will be held on the new 200 point smallbore competition range currently under construction at The Cardinal Center in Marengo, OH. The championship calendar can be found on our website at: www.americansmallbore.com.

Additional details regarding the F-class championships and entry information will be forthcoming in the near future.

What targets will be used for this. Sounds very interesting.

NRA f-class targets are the "metric" or international prone smallbore targets:
A50, A51, A33
I don't see anything in ASSA saying they aren't going with those.

Little b*st*rds are hard for not even being f-class specific targets :)

.

Hmm. I wouldn't call it the first time. 2017 and 2016 F-Class was held concurrently with the NRA Metric Prone National Championships.

Texas ran both together this year. I didn’t even know that there was such a think a F Class 22 till I saw a State Champion was crowned.

So then my question is, is the match that the OP is referring to NRA Sanctioned? I highly doubt the NRA would would sanction two national championships for smallbore F-Class.
I thought that was a clear no.
It's ASSA sanctioned.
From their faq:
Does the assa want to replace the current governing body?
From the events since 2013 it appears the current governing body of conventional smallbore shooting is heading in a direction that conflicts with the majority of the competitors. The ASSA wants to steer the sport in the direction the majority of competitors would prefer to sustain and grow our sport.

It appears that many competitors just don't like Bristol and wantCampPerry Back

It is much more than just shooting at Camp Perry that led to the formation of ASSA. This has been well documented on multiple locations, however it is very similar to issues encountered with our fellow pistol and hp brethren. We are very serious in our intent as the four (4) founding members have in excess of 130 years of active smallbore rifle prone and position experience. We were driven to action by the continued decline of conventional smallbore competition in the United States and significant concern with the plummeting low levels of attendance at the current fiasco conducted in bristol.

In response to some of the other posts:

With regards to the F-Class rules, a new section is currently being added to the ASSA Smallbore Rifle Rulebook that is under revision and on schedule to be issued in January. The F-class section will be finalized with direct input from smallbore F-class competitors.

The targets to be used are the smallbore metric targets used for 50m ISU competition and the 300m reduced target for 100 yards. As previously noted, they are indeed challenging but both F-class and sling shooters are able to shoot clean scores on both.

With regards to this being the first F-class smallbore nationals, from what I can recall, there have been no F-class entries for any of the prior NRA smallbore match in bristol, In. If this was in error, it was my error alone.

With regards to ASSA and NRA - these are completely different organizations. You can find additional information on ASSA at our web site: www.americansmallbore.com. We had a very successful start with our 2017 National Championships on which we plan to build upon during our 2018 championships that are to be conducted at the new 200 point range currently under construction at The Cardinal Center in Ohio.

If anyone has additional questions, feel free to reach out to ASSA at any time - here or via our web site.
Best Regards,
ken

There was a national metric championship that included f-class in early 2017.
It occurred in Arizona, not Indiana, is that relevant?

I am looking for the results of the NRA Smallbore F-Class Championship on the NRA results website. No where to be found. http://competitions.nra.org/national-championship-results.aspx. The only results they have posted for the Metric Championships are from 2013.

From what I can tell the Smallbore F-Class shooters have been promised to be included by the NRA and a championship to follow but it has never happened. I understand the metric championships that have been run at Ben Avery by the Desert Sharpshooters included F-Class and Jeff Huehn deserves the accolades and recognition as the 2017 winner.

ASSA is declaring there will be a Championship specifically for the F-Class Smallbore shooters. It will be conducted simultaneously with the ASSA Conventional Smallbore Prone Championship. The targets will be the A50, A51 and A33 for an as yet to be determined course of fire to determine a Smallbore F-Class Champion.

ASSA's position on the course of fire to determine a Smallbore Prone Champion is the 640 shot Creedmoor course of fire. 4 days of 160 shots per day. 40 Shots at 50 Yards. 40 Shots at 50 Meters. 40 Shots Dewar Match. Finishing with 40 Shots at 100 yards, in that order. This is the historical course of fire where the vast majority of National Champions earned their Trophy.

Should the F-Class be the same?

The metric prone event was clearly and repeatedly labeled NRA National Championship in the program, entry and results posted.
Perhaps NRA turned it over to DS including results posting and never bothered to update their own site. Absence from their site doesn't mean the NRA National Championship for smallbore f-class wasn't shot and won.

As Ken Benyo pointed out in his response, if he was wrong (and it appears we are) then we are wrong.
With that said, ASSA is still running a Smallbore F-Class Championship in Ohio in July and all of the Smallbore F-Class shooters are encouraged to come and compete for the Championship.
As a side note, what award did the NRA provide to Jeff Heuhn?
