Somewhat relieved it wasn't just me... the wind was laying right along the range axis and any minor twitch in direction was a switch. I have been shooting a whole lot more 600yd than 1k, and having to hold off at the outside edge of the black was wigging me out. That's my story, and I am sticking to it.I have been shooting on the AEDC KD range for a long time, since they dug the river, and it seems to have very unique wind patterns that are difficult to read. I have seen a few folks over the years that could deal with it but not many, especially at 1000 yards. The most fun I ever had was shooting team matches with a good wind coach and getting good wind calls and shooting a good M14 score. Many years ago we put up wind flags thinking that was the answer but they proved to be misleading or useless for most folks. I think the people who do the best on the AEDC range use the mirage when they can see it. Since I can no longer stay in position long enough to read and wait things out I have to shoot fast and chase the spotter, sometimes it works. Anyway it gives folks who make bad shots and excuse.
On my match number three I was centered up on the first string but by the end of the second string I was holding one foot off of the right edge of the target frame. I was chasing the spotter so I was off to the left for several shots and wound up with a 187. When you are a shot behind during a wind build up from one side it cost you a lot of points.Somewhat relieved it wasn't just me... the wind was laying right along the range axis and any minor twitch in direction was a switch. There is a knob on the right side of most scopes that will fix that.On my match number three I was centered up on the first string but by the end of the second string I was holding one foot off of the right edge of the target frame.
