2017 TN LR F-Class Championship

I have been shooting on the AEDC KD range for a long time, since they dug the river, and it seems to have very unique wind patterns that are difficult to read. I have seen a few folks over the years that could deal with it but not many, especially at 1000 yards. The most fun I ever had was shooting team matches with a good wind coach and getting good wind calls and shooting a good M14 score. Many years ago we put up wind flags thinking that was the answer but they proved to be misleading or useless for most folks. I think the people who do the best on the AEDC range use the mirage when they can see it. Since I can no longer stay in position long enough to read and wait things out I have to shoot fast and chase the spotter, sometimes it works. Anyway it gives folks who make bad shots and excuse.
Somewhat relieved it wasn't just me... the wind was laying right along the range axis and any minor twitch in direction was a switch. I have been shooting a whole lot more 600yd than 1k, and having to hold off at the outside edge of the black was wigging me out. That's my story, and I am sticking to it.

On my match number three I was centered up on the first string but by the end of the second string I was holding one foot off of the right edge of the target frame. I was chasing the spotter so I was off to the left for several shots and wound up with a 187. When you are a shot behind during a wind build up from one side it cost you a lot of points.

There is a knob on the right side of most scopes that will fix that.

MSM SHOOTERS

The 2017 F-Class State Championship is now on the books. For once the weather forecasters were right, we managed 2 days of shooting in great conditions. Plenty of sunshine and blue sky both days with zero precipitation. As always the mystery AEDC winds and vertical monster was out to grab you if you let your guard down.
Also a special thanks to Tonia Venters, for keeping the statistics updated and displayed on the electronic board and John (Iron Man) Huskey for running the pits. Without these volunteers this match wouldn't be possible. Congratulations to the respective
winners in each class. Attached are the final results. Hope to see some of you next week at the TN LR Prone Championship at Oak Ridge TN (9/10 Sept) and the 6x600 at Henry Co Gun Club ( 16/17 Sept).....................Tim John MidSouth Marksmen
