2017 build idea....22br with 53gr vmax

Building another rifle......going to be a cheap-o build this year and going with a single shot rem (doubt i even true it) with a remmage (enjoyed the 223ai i built with one) and will be shooting, ONLY, the 53gr vmax. Just had some corn fields open up to me beside my trout fishing land.

I'm going to be shooting from a bench, rear bag, and front bipod....and the action will be marine tex bedded into a boyds walnut stock. Barrel will be 1:12 twist in varmint contour. End will be threaded 1/2x28 (i was asked to shoot suppressed and I prefer to either way). Brass will be necked down lapua, fired off with a 450, a stout load of whatever powder i find to work.

I don't really have any expectations on a specific speed....sure, the more the better, but I do want to have 0.25" or better accuracy at 100 and close to that at 200yds.

All that is leading to this...what barrel length should I go with? The longest barrel i've shot suppressed is 24" (223ai remmage) and it was heavy....but it was also in a PDC chassis with a heavy scope. I don't care about weight, but I don't want to hang my 28oz suppressor on the end of a barrel that's too long and it impact accuracy (as it did/does in my 222). Should I stick with 24" or go to 22" or push it out to 26"???

Thank you

AS long as possible...........:D

Crank up the speed with some barrel length, you could do a 22 BR AI, or a 22 BRDX for the extra oomph.......:rolleyes:

The Dasher is always an alternative too......

Heck, we even have a long neck version available, if we want it......:cool:

YOU'LL LIKE IT 4 SURE I HAVE 2 12TWIST 22BRS AND I SHOOT 53GRS VMAX WITH H-322 AND 450'S 26'' BARREL AND THEY MAKE PRETTY BUGHOLES 4 SURE AND A VARMINTS WORST NIGHTMARE

I will never own another barrel heavy rifle. 28 oz is a lot of weigh to hang off a long heavy barrel. Since you said you don't care about extreme velocity, which you will get plenty of with the caliber and bullet weight, I would go shorter before I went longer. 24 inches is the most I would go, and for what you described 22 inches is probably where I would end up at.

Here's my 20 incher if ya want to see what the proportions look like. I didn't get it that short on purpose, that's just what it happened to have. Now -- I'm happy about it. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. If I do my part -- blah blah blah -- ALL DAY LONG!!!:p:p JD

There it is again........................:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
