2014 March Madness Matches in Sacramento, California

BobA, I'm enjoying your posts with the results from up here in Canada. Missed and was looking for ya at the BSWN last month. Looks like a bunch of Canadians are in Sac this year, Frank L, Gord H, Peter J, Robert P, Ken W and Ron D, all sling shooters. Good shooting Bob, keep it up and keep posting the results and weather comments buddy. See your stuck between the two Garys and look out for Wally, he likes to follow, remember last year, he came out of no where to beat both of us LOL.

Team Finland has arrived home and we are looking into the allegations about a non-Finn shooting on the winning FTR team on Friday.

Congrats to Eric Smith, an Up and comming Palma Shooter who Placed 1st High Master and Third overall. Looks like he came on hard the last day with a 399/400 only droping one point at the 1000 yard line for the day. Atta Boy Sgt. Eric Smith. Very Proud of you.

Here is a recap of the scores; Day 1, Day 2 and the Aggregate Match Totals.

Hope to have a Daily Bulletin entry with an in-depth account of the match soon.

For most of Day Two the wind flags were laying flat, and the mild temps kept the mirage down.

72 shooters in four relays = a crowded firing line under the roof at 1K.

Match Aggregate Scores - Final Results

As is plain to see, the Sling crowd far outnumbered the more "sophisticated" shooters this weekend. The crew from Scotland rolled in heavy but could not have been nicer, treating us to some great bagpipe music. The target-pulling by the California Grizzlies Junior Rifle Team was terrific, you haven't lived until you've shot with paid target-pullers!
The catered dinners each day were Tri-Tip/Burgers/Sausage and all the sides with a dessert table that was not to be taken lightly. Many of the competitors stayed on-site in RVs/motorhomes creating a small village.

After some close shooting Saturday in F-Open it all came down to Sunday's 1,000 yard string, as the top three from yesterday maintained their positions from yesterday's scores. It came down to Gary Evans shooting a Clean to best Pete White and myself for the F-Open win. Note the great X-count of Jason Montoliu, fairly new to F-Open, who had an excellent day Sunday

In F/TR, the face-off was between Mssr's Montin and Mattson who also took it to the final string with Sean Mattson edging Niklas by just 2 points. These two continue their friendly rivalry every match.

We'll gather it all up again this coming week for the NRA Long Range Regional matches.

Stay tuned.

Was that the guy with the funny hat?
:D

Congrats on winning!
- and to Ken for his work on your rifle.

There was no coming back from my crossfire on 600. Looks like Noma did the same thing.
Someone said that there are only two types of shooters:
- Those how have crossfired, and those will do it again :-\

Of the two groups, those who have crossfired can be further subdivided based on what score the crossfire would have been. An "X" hurts the most, therefore anyone that has crossfired an "X" falls into an extra special category of self-abuse ;).
- :'( Mine was a pinwheel X, third shot; first was a 9, 2nd an X converted - scored my partner and fired on the same target I had scored - I knew it should be an X...

I really should stop doing that :)

I cross fired twice on the same string on Sat , thank god they were my 2 sighters. So I had 1 more cross fire than you. ;D

Yes, that was a close call - I remember hearing:
Scorer: "Should I ask them to mark your target"
Shooter: "What do you mean - it's a 10!"
Scorer: "No, they didn't pull it"
Shooter: "But I'm looking at a 10 and I want to convert it!"

We should both join CFA - Cross Fireres Anonymous ;D

Thanks for the posting Bob. Was great shooting with you. Thanks again to the Grizzlies and everyone who helped put on a great match. Looking forward to this week, good shooting everyone.

Hey, without a doubt, Gary. Your Clean at 1K on Sunday with the pressure ON was impressive.
Was fun shooting with you, too.

I'm loaded up and looking forward to this weekend, forecast calls for 81º Saturday and 78º Sunday.
Got my shorts and flip-flops ready.

Here's the scores from Thursday's Club match, like a Friendly in soccer...

Saturday morning was warm and sunny with little wind in the first strings at 800.
A total of 62 shooters were on hand for this annual shoot.
I'm not part of the Sling and Coat group but have learned much shooting alongside them.
Lane B and Jim O paired up with an F'er and shot their Palma rifles on the F-Class target; take a look at their scores, just amazes me.

Shooting at 900 I popped my Crossfire Cherry, at a most in-opportune time; while I was dropping the fewest points in F-Open.....especially at 1K.
I felt actual physical pain when I was in the pit pulling. Arrrrgg.

Once again we're chasing Pete White in Open. It's anyone's match to win.

The after-match bbq was great and much bench-shooting took place.

We'll gather up tomorrow morning for day two. I'll try to keep the Dasher pointed at the right damn target!

Bob Ariana

Edited: corrected scores for Saturday's F/TR.

You know the sayin.
There is those who Have and will Again.. And those who havnt and will.
;)

Did Buxton and OConnell Shoot on the F class target and score as the normal LR target or did they actually score it as a Fclass Center? If they scored it as a Fclass center... Oh My. Great practice for us iron sight shooters... though. Nothing like holding Half MOA elevation with Iron sights and sling....

Keep em Comming Bob, Really appreciate you posting these.

Russ, I would not be surprised if they used regular f-class targets and shot those scores. I was next to O'Connell's target in Phoenix in December and both his groups at 800/900 were about 6"x8". an amazing display of shooting, while actually holding the rifle on a sling, aligning sights and reading the changes.

Look at Ron and Nick f/tr scores right up there with the top of the open shooters! Great shooting guys :D
Thanks!
- Ron's score was mistyped - he had an xfire on 1,000 - thought it was a miss and compensated. It was a 10 two targets down, but this through him in a loop.

I'm sure Bob will share today's results shortly.

- This was my pride of the day :)

Russ, Oh My indeed.
Lane likes to have a little fun with the F'ers....by out shooting us. On "our" target.
Should have heard him razzing me "how could you crossfire when you're using a rest!?"

I've learned a lot from Lane.
