Finally on Saturday the temperature moderated and the wind speed was manageable here in eastern PA so guess where I headed - my favorite ghogs farms.
It was about as perfect day as you could imagine, low to no wind, bright sunshine, temperature in the low 70's.
I set up in the first field and about 4:15PM a large male came rolling out at 176 yards. Brought the Weatherby Supervarmint master 223 on to the shooting sticks, waited for the hog to turn board side then I sent the 50 grain Nosler. Heard the familiar "plunk" sound of the bullet hitting and the hog rolled over. First kill of the season, felt good. (I hope no PETA people are reading this

About 5:00 PM I saw a head peak through brush in the same tree line about 100 yards down from where I shot the other hog. This guy was a lot more cautious. He sat there for about 10 minutes then came rolling out. This one was 141 yards out. I sent another Nosler and heard another "plunk". Two down and 2 hours still to go!
The field went cold so I hiked over to another field where there were a few new fresh holes dug out. At about 7:00 PM saw a head emerge from a hole 215 yards out. After several minutes the hog came out and stood on the mound by his hole. It was a beautiful sight, a classic ghog sight. I sent another Nosler and the hog disappeared. Shot felt good but didn't hear the "plunk" which I sometimes don't hear depending on where the shot hits. I waited until the sun began to fall and didn't see any at the other holes so I walked up the the one where I had shot at. Bingo, there he laid in the hole, a perfect shot middle of the upper chest.
Three ghogs down to start the 2014 campaign, my 43rd year of pursuing ghogs. Just can't get enough of it!
