Weather good here so I went out hogging in the afternoon on Monday. Pulled into the field at 3.30 Pm and saw a ghog at the tree line inching out. I stopped the truck, got out slowly and move to the back of the truck withdrawing my 223 Rem 700 with the 26", heavy, Douglas match barrel; shooting sticks and sportsman's chair.
Worked my way around the side of the truck and set up slowly. Hog still there. Ranged it at 191 yards. Waited until the hog turned sideways and sent a 55 grain Nosler. Hog rolled over. First Hog down of the 2017 campaign.
Moved out and set up about 225 yards from the "L" shaped tree line. At 4:15 another hog appeared at 217 yards at the other end of the tree line. Waited for broad side shot, sent another 55 Nosler and the ghog rolled over with the tail doing the 'death dance'. Second hog down.
Field went cold and didn't see another hog the rest of the evening.
Both hogs were males, happy about that.
