Here are the results of the 2009 US F-Class National Championships from Butner, NC.

Grand agg for all three relays at 600, and all six relays at 1000 yards....062 is the number of total x's he shot..

Yes... three strings of 2 sighters + 15 for record @ 600 on Thursday, three strings of 2 + 15 @ 1000 on Friday, three strings of 2 + 15 @ 1000 on Saturday. 1350 total points,9 x 150) possible. I thikn the scores listed show the Thurs/Fri agg,the 893 out of 900), then the four matches on Saturday - the three individual strings,147, 142, 146) and the Saturday daily agg,435/450), and then the overall three-day agg,1328). Not quite the way I would have broken it down, but it gets the essential information out there.

Yes... much to my regret. Fun little gun, but not enough gun for that crowd. Either that or I need to learn to drive it better... or both.

Savage 6mm BR Monty?

No... full-custom,still using Savage action, but with all the bells-n-whistles) 6 Dasher in a McRee stock. Gun shot well, I need a little more work on bag set-up which is markedly different from what I use in F/TR, and the light/switchy breezes @ Butner just gave me no end of fits - 'death by a thousand paper-cuts' I called it Watched a guy on my target 'miss' the wind change,not his fault - it flipped right as he fired) and I cringed, expecting the target to come up a wide 9 or worse - nope, just a wide 10?!? Later in the pits found he was shooting a .300 WSM with 210 vlds - no wonder he was able to 'mow' through changes that ate me for lunch.

I still could - and should - have done a much better job reading the conditions than I did, but it was an eye-opener just how much advantage some of those 'cannons' do have under certain circumstances.

Which is the reason I'm going to a 7mm RSAUM for next years matches. I have been shooting a 6mm 250AI which will drive the 105 Berger VLDs at 3400fps but I still see the magnum guys shoot through the light switchy conditions and get 10s. The same conditions that give me 9s and wide 10s. Conditions at that range will drive you nuts! You don't usually get killed with 6s or 7s but it'll 9 you to death! As Monte said death by a thousand paper cuts.

I wasn't entirely sure how much was 'me',never have done especially well in the light/switchy stuff regardless of caliber) and how much was the gun/caliber 'advantage' or disadvantage.

Guess thats the nice thing about F/TR... everybody is in the same boat on caliber. Only thing left is the shooter

Yeah I can relate to the 7mm vs. 6mm thing, my 6 Dasher was recently humbled by a 180 grain VLD by quite a few points. The winds were switchy, not Rattlesnake bad, but enough to drive me nuts. My 'x' count was better though. Anyways I've got a 7mm in the works so we'll see.

Words of advice on the 7mm/284's....you'll get caught with your pants down in switchy winds just as easy with it, as the Dasher ..You can't just 'drive' on thur without paying a price...Ask me how I know....I've been driving the Dasher for a while now, and even though it gives up a little to the big guns in the wind, it makes no difference if you can't get a handle on the way the big guns recoils, and handles in the bags...I recently got the '284' bug as well..got everything finished and ready for the Nationals..off the bench, the gun shoots great..little groups...no vertical..etc...when I got it down on the ground, it was a whole new creature...I had flyers going out all directions....I know its not the gun, it's my handling of it from prone...If you're use to shooting a light recoiling gun,and bear in mind that I'm not recoil shy in any manner), and make the switch to the 7mm/284's, you'll have to relearn how the shoot it from the ground...I screwed my Dasher barrel back on, and carried it to the nationals...I finished behind a few big guns, and ahead of alot of big guns...

For me it's all about what you have confidence in.. The Dasher is still IMO, hard to beat...though, I'm going to learn to shoot this 284 yet..

I shot my .284 at nationals it did a nice job of handling the switches compared to my .260, on wednesdays practice i shot both guns back to back.The recoil aspect does need to be handled differently than a lighter recoiling gun, i experienced the same with my .284 killer of the bench but it took me part of the summer to get it to shoot the same of off my front rest and rear bag.Its tough because at most of my 600 yd shoots it was ok but the needed changes didn't really show up till 1000 yds.
