2008 Whitetail with the new 243 AI

Well, another one falls to the new rifle I got this fall. George did such a great job.. It is a shooter ! http://www.precisionshootingsports.com/

Unfortunately, my top spotter and range finder, Tyler had school this morning. He didn't get to come out for opening day. :, Good thing, because it was cold and a hour wait for daylight after I got set up where I wanted to be. Bad thing, because I love my hunting buddy and he has a ball coming along. Still have one more Antelope tag to fill and he can't wait.

I had been watching this buck all summer long and had him patterned well. My setup was along a fenceline bordering his feedground. I had been seeing him come out of a brushy draw about 550 yards from my vantage point. The moon was up and bright and clouds rolled by off and on to where I could see deer bedded in the field and some up feeding. About 15 minutes before shooting light, I found him bedded down about 197 yards out. Man I was happy he was here !! Now to just close the deal.

Sunrise from my stand...

I got my rifle up and chambered a round as quietly as possible and gave it 10 more minutes for shooting light. I looked over to my left and he was gone. I lifted my Bruntons up and found him following a doe and closing in... closer and closer... 80 YARDS.. head on to me. LOL  Scope is on 15 power. I lower rifle and turn it down. Now the doe turns and heads to the right. He is following right after her.

She stops and takes a pee and I think, "here is my chance ! " I settle in and take the shot. 117 yards and he falls DRT when the 115 DTAC moly hits him. I get up and go check him out... It is bittersweet to see him lying there after watching him all summer... And not having my hunting buddy and son Tyler not there... Dang school ! Dang tests... !

Big dude down... weighed 168 lbs dressed out.

Morning,
Can you give me some input on the 115's performance on coyotes? What type of expansion, or is there any, Are you having to sew the pelts or are exit holes manageable?
I am very interested in using these, but I hate them, coyotes) running off and I hate to sew....interested in what you have experienced.

Thanks
Eric

I don't know where you live, but here in Wyoming, we only averaged 10 to 12 dollars a coyote last year... Hardly worth the time to skin, flesh, stretch, etc....

I gave most of mine dogs away to a 14 yr. old kid last year and plan to this year too..

to answer your question, I have most of the times about a golf ball exit hole on them. If you shoot shoulder or take out to much bone, it can open them up more, but so will a Vmax or BT. I have most luck with 52 hollow points out of my 220 swift for fur friendly on Bobcats......

these were taken with 243 AI and 115 dtacs....

Coyotes - the 115 .25 cal Berger VLD leaves one heck of a hole in the off-side of the 'yote. Talking softball size at least...

Sendero_Man: Looked over that buck of yours again - I sure hope you're getting a full head/shoulder mount done - that's a great looking buck!

Thank you for the response.
I am a couple hundred miles north/north east of you.
Pelts are worth a little, something else to do in the winter.

M700.... Yes, I broke down and took him to the taxidermy shop.

Gonna be a semi sneak with a right turn... I'll try and post pics when he is done.

MTETM....

Let me know how you do hunting. Do you call and spotlight ? Do you use handcalls and or electronics ?

I love the FOXPRO FX5... The best ecaller to own !
