I'm so far behind for the E2K shoot in August... :( Normal summer activities kinda got outta hand and ate up a bunch of my time. It was all fun tho.

So far I have 50 rounds down the barrel to break it in and fireform cases. No real load development yet. Have t go to work tomorrow which will leave me about 10 days for load development and practice when I get back. I'm probably screwed...

300 Norma Magnum Improved fire-formed cases. 35 deg shoulder.

I don’t think your alone in being behind, it will still be fun!!

I might have a chance if I can set up the shooters on my sides in the path of the braked muzzle blast. Lays grass flat for a mile. OOFTA! ;)

- I don't have a problem shooting next to someone with a brake. 50 BMG's in Hunter-Class - And I'll be shooting 106 gr. of RL-33 in my braked 338 Lapua Improved, so its a 2 way street. ;)

We can do that too - LMAO, - Before or after I beat you in shooting ?

Honestly tho, I probably won't even make it at the rate I'm going. If I can't get a decent load and some good targets at 2K in less than 1 week when I get back home from work, I'm not gonna waste the time and money to go down there. I should be doing something more important anyhow like scouting for mule deer bucks ;)

This all reminds me of why I don't compete in shoots. It's takes half your damn life over. Not much time for anything else if you wanna be at a winning level. I don't ever want it to feel like work and that's exactly how getting ready for this competition is starting to feel.

If that’s the case I shouldn’t go either, I’m behind and nowhere close as accurate as I wished but I’m going to have a good time with good folks. Hopefully make some friends. Hope to see ya there! Troy

Are you getting the inherent donut that 300 Norma is known for, or does the 35 deg help? Case looks neck turned also?

The 35 is supposed to help cure that. 40 degree shoulder doesn't take small 2 thou bumps as well in a large case like that. I also turn down necks well onto the shoulder before fireforming. Didn't get the chance to check the fired cases for donuts but I'm sure they are fine. My fb length allows 230gr bullets to be seated up out of the donut area so I don't have too much of a concern.

I also reduced body taper even further than what Norma already did to the Lapua case in my reamer design. I only have 18 thou body taper from the 200 line to the shoulder. This will also help prevent case growth.

Here's a pic of my reamer specs. The .235" freebore is perfect for seating the 215gr Berger, 230gr Berger, and 230gr Sierra up just above the donut line and touching the lands. Its too much freebore for anything smaller than the 215gr Berger. If anyone is interested in using it, Jason should have it on file. Titled "300NMI 35 BD" with my name as the designer.

"40 degree shoulder doesn't take small 2 thou bumps as well in a large case like that." (Sounds like something JGuffey would say)

- What are you talking about ? - Again, your at it !! (Fishing in sour water) - There's such a Small difference between a 35 degree and a 40 degree shoulder that what your saying has NO validity - How many 40 degree shoulder cartridges do you have ? - Post some photos -

- I think you come here to stir the pot more than anything else.

All that input and opinions on the rules and now not coming?

How about sitting beside one that shoots 8x that powder charge and pushing a 1425 grain bullet at 3300 fps?

Life in the oilfield bud. Can change in the blink of an eye. Lot of sacrifice to make a lot of money so my family has a good life. Not about me and I don't always get to do what I want. If I would have known I couldn't make it beforehand I sure as hell wouldn't have spent over $8K on two different scopes and building an ELR rifle. Not happy about it, but work and my family comes first

Sitting alongside a 950 JDJ probably not or a 14.5 Russian - Not. - Have shot next to plenty of 50's in Hunter-Class.
- I've been on the deck when a 5" gun mount on a U.S. Naval ship fires and the concussion literally slaps a man backwards.

- What about you James ?

Well, no doubt about that. From your post I didnt think you had to work. I understand now.

I was going to have most of August off. Now we just landed a contract in the North Sea so I have to work til the 3rd week of August to get the rig ready for two different 34 day transits at sea before the next shipyard in the Canary Islands. Work is insane right now. Good news is I will probably get to do some bow hunting where with my normal schedule I would have worked all of September.

I’ve never been around anything of the nature as you’re speaking of. What I have is a custom built 20mm and I’ve been designing and tuning CNC turned Bullets to find the right combo for my rig. But I know what you mean about the percussion of being behind a large round. I have 3 50’s and I quit shooting them some time ago, just no fun anymore. The 20 was built to shoot 5k and out for that world record.

No need to work so hard for that particular record, you just need a lot of ammo. Eventually you will "hit".

I'm in the same business. Even for family and friends it's hard for them to understand $hit happens and it happens fast in this business.

Spent the last 3 - 4 years trying to keep the work and customers we had before the big downturn. Shoveled out money to key employees so they would still be here when it turned around.

When they call you go do it or someone else will. Plenty of loyalty as long as you do what they want when they want. Otherwise not so much.
