20 Tactical load development ????

I just purchased a Remington 700 chambered in 20 TAC and would like to know what loads you guys with them are using. The gun has a Hart 1-10 twist and I plan on shooting either the Hornady 40gr. Vmax or the Sierra 39gr. BK.

The powders I plan on trying are H4895,Benchmark,H335,and IMR8208XBR.

Any help is appreciated.

Good powder choices.....published data at Hodgdon Powder

If you have any LT-32 or H4198 lying around, you may wish to try those as well. Best by far in mine.

Rel 10 X is the powder strongly suggested by Todd Kindler, the developer of the 20 TAC. H4198 is a winner as is IMR 4198 BUT this 4198 is hotter than Hodgdon's. LT 32 is another good choice. This cartridge prefers faster powders even with 40 gr bullets.

Lots of different powders worked well in my 20 Tac. I settled on 26.0 gr of 8208XBR with the 39 gr Sierra. However, I do coat my bullets with hBN so I would start a couple of grains lower and work up. It is very accurate in my Gre'Tan built M700.

Hope this helps, Jerry

I have found Benchmark and IMR 8208 to be the best powders in both of my 20 Tac Rifles. 8208 is hard to beat.....

Thanks guys.I have plenty of Benchmark and 8208.Use them in my 22BR and 204 Ruger. I just purchased a 20 Practical AR upper so now I have to think about that one as well! ;D

Matt,
I was using the 40 GR. Hornady V-Max right at 3800 FPS. You can get higher velocity but that load was so accurate, and in a 22" barrel, I just left it there. 8208 is a great powder in the 20 Tac. and it is a great cartridge. I am using the Dakota/Lapua Brass...Good luck. George

I have been using Benchmark in mine with 39 BK, but I am going to try some AA2520, maybe 8208 also since I have a good supply of all those. Anybody tried CFE223?

I shoot RL-10x in mine with 39 Sierra or 40 V-Max. 24.6gr in my Rock Creek barrel is a max load. RL-10x has worked for many 20 Tacs and 204s over the years. Was wanting to try Benchmark or 8208 in this current 20 TAC but i have about 5 lbs of RL-10x left. 20 TAC is one of my all time favorite cartridges

If you dont mind me asking what charge weight and oal you choose? Right now I’m pushing 39gr blitzkings behind 25.3gr of 8208, but don’t know velocity. I have some 40gr vmax that id like to try
