20 TAC...Forming Brass ? Have Redding Form and FL die set...

The 20 Tac has been around awhile..I got mine Before Dakota arms contracted w Lapua to make formed brass..I used the seating die in my Redding FL set to pre-form the brass..I used my FL 223 die to de-cap & then clean/sort before pre-forming w the 20 tac seating die, stem removed..After that process..I used the Redding FL 20 Tac sizing die to finish the job...NOTE: some lots of brass did not have enough thickness in the necks to do the job..I have quite a few lots of mil spec & commercial brass that won't grip the bullet properly..one other caution on forming these small sizes of rifle brass..Please take the time to weight sort all the brass you intend to use..I have found some very heavy, and some light weight lots of 223 brass..Use the mid weights from your own sorts to start..I use Benchmark powder in my 11 twist Pac-nor barrel & Sierra 39gr Bullet...Good Luck, be safe..Mike in Ct

Great info, thanks for sharing .I made it to the range today ,did not have much time but made a little noise . Tried the Berger 35s and H4895 because I had both...My first mistake was making my aiming dots the same size as .204 bullet...that 36x Tasco did not make up for my old eyes...plus the crosshairs covered my whole aiming point . Bigger dots next time . Nothing fancy but I like it,all the work has been done for me .The previous owner had it built for woodchucks on his farm, not a woodchuck lost it's life...51 shots on paper before I got it from him .

daleboy, that is a really fine looking rifle you got there...nothing beats a nice looking wood laminate stock. The groups are great and real promising. Glad you got out to shoot it. Which brass did you use...the Dakota or formed 223 brass?

Thanks Gene , I can tell it will shoot just fine once I put some time into loading and shooting . The brass was the 223 I formed ... I used the stripped bolt method with the brass and finding the lands also .I have a good feel for whats going on with it now . New to forming brass , glad I stumbled upon the rifle and the 20 Tac .
