20 Pratical/20-223

Could one of you fine gentleman be so kind as to tell me the difference between a 20 Practical and a 20-223? Without looking at the reamer prints which I do not have either, both of these cartridges are just necked down 223 or 5.56 cases with the same shoulder angle if I am reading correctly.

Thanks for your help,
Clinton

Clinton, from what I've been told they are the same including the 20x45, depending on who you're talking to. Mine is called a 20 Practical with any 32-39gr bullet over 3200 fps its a screamer.

That's what has me messed up, Todd Kindler calls his the 20-223 and Warren called his the practical then you throw a few more out there. I looked at PTG and Mr. Kiff offers both reamers. Didn't know if the have different free bore, if you must turn the necks after resizing or not. I'm lazy, put a new bushing in and start loading.

I thank you for your reply,,

pretty sure the differences are in the shoulder angle. practical has 30degree shoulder 20 -223 has 23 degree shoulder. go to home page here look at cartridges 20cal

6xcshooter, the 30 degree shoulder is on the 20 Tactical, the 20 Practical retains the 23 degree shoulder.

You are correct on the 20 tactical by Todd Kindler. I do not wish to fire form 500 rounds of brass for a pdog shooter. Thank you all for your replies. Super nice bunch of folks here.

That is correct. Practical has a 23 degree shoulder

OP, There is no difference. A 20 Practical is a 20-223. Some folks can change dimensions on any reamer to tweak things a bit here and there, so reamer to reamer, you may find slightly different specs...but they are the same

I used to have a 20 Practical built on an AR platform.
Shot 39gr BlitzKings @ 3600 FPS and little ragged holes at 100.

Got the upper from Sabreco/Robert Whitley.

Just too .223 brass, ran them in the sizing die (as per Roberts instructions) loaded and went shooting.

Fun gun.

I found a reamer for the 20-223 at a reasonable price and its own the way. All that's missing is a bushing for my die and I will be in business.

Thank you for all the information. Great group of people here.

I'd get two bushings and bring it down in steps. If memory serves me .228 and then .226.

L.C. brass is great for Prairie dogs.high volume shooting. #9 Blitz King and 40 Nosler works well in my 11twist Pac Nor.

H-4198 is the powder. 8208 not to bad either.
