20 PRACTICAL TWIST ?

What twist should I use for my first 20 Practical shooting 32 - 39 - 40 grain bullets ?

11 twist or better. some 12 twist barrels won't shoot the 40's well or not at all, but will shoot the 39's. The 39's are rare/extinct items at this point in time. 12 twist will shoot the 32's if that is your preference.

My TC dimension (204 Ruger) barrel is 1/10, so when I ordered a 20p AR barrel(Blackhole weapons) I went with a 1/10. No regrets, I usually shoot 35 and 40 gr bullets in both.

Its simple, with the thin jackets of the 20cal., you want the slowest twist you can get away with, 32 or 35gr. 12 for sure, 39 or 40, the 12 twist can be hit or miss, 11's the plan

I had a 10 twist 3P barrel and running the 39gr TNT around 3800fps they were explosive on anything remotely soft. Shooting apples just vaporizes them!

I've got a 10 twist White Oak Armament 24" barrel on an AR platform, which shoots 32 and 40 grain V-max very well. My go-to load is the 40's as I have my 20 Vartarg for the 32 grain shooting.

I've got 12's that shoot the 34 v- nitemares pretty good but at the time I was looking for a cheap barrel and its all GM had, there's probably 1,000's of 11 twist out there shooting 39 snd 40's no problem.
I've never been in the camp to " over" spin bullets more than necessary because I know jacket stress can influence accuracy.
