WowCouldn’t be happier with my 20 tactical. I think next one I’ll try is a 20-223ai out of curiosity View attachment 1477826View attachment 1477827View attachment 1477828
The 20p is the choice that makes sense if you are starting from scratch. I enjoyed mine and actually shot the only group with that chambering that I had to guess to measure. All you need is a couple of neck bushings and you're set!Well im going to just go with a 20 practical. Thought about 221 or 17 fireball but info i looked up need to change up some stuff to work in a R700 223 action. I just ordered dies and a 20 cal decapping stem. Ill get the barrel coming soon
Good choice. I found a target of my first load work up with a 20P barrel A/R (1-12" tw. Hart 26" tube). There are at least four different bullets and powders on this target - but gives you an idea of how quickly it can be to find several loads worth considering with the 20P. The third target in first row is 32 VMax with LT32 powder, the fourth target lead-free Ballistic Tip (W748). The fifth target in second row is 39 Blitz King with Lt32.Well im going to just go with a 20 practical. Good choice, if you’ve never owned a 20 caliber you’ll be pleasantly surprised, especially if you’re shooting critters. 20 practical is the easy button, the only problem with your choice is wanting more 20 caliber cartridges as you start playing with this one, they are a hoot. Where’s the other 3?This is what 20p can do in an AR with white oak/pacnor 3 groove. 4 shots at 100. I'd be shooting one in a bolt right now however I wound up with a 6br!View attachment 1478219
That W748 is great stuff for the lead-free 40 Ballistic Tips. After further refinement of the load shown on the target I posted above, it shot in the 2's in perfect condition with that barrel and almost as well in other barrels. I'm just now putting together another upper with another 26" Hart 1-12" for next season. My groups are opening up on the current barrel and can't tune it out (though it has 6,500+ rounds down the tube). Still shoots sub 1/2" MOA on a good day. That LT32 has worked in more barrels than all other powders combined when shooting the leaded 32, 39 and 40. That, W748 and Varmint, H4198 and maybe H322 are where I tend to start. I haven't given the N powder a good workout - but seems it works for a lot of guys here. And the 4198, as I hear, is history?I have a large amount of w748. Thinking about n133 also. Id like to shoot the 40gr bullets but will not rule out the 32's. I have some 35gr bergers i use for my 204. I do like them and wish berger would start making them again.
3 groove pacnor from White Oak precision. But he does Ar's. If you need threaded then have at it.Another question for you guys. Im trying to pick a barrel brand to build this 20p off of. Im torn right now between a wilson and a mcgowen. I have a wilson for my 6x45 and it shoots good. Was leaning that way but what are you inputs?
Of the two, I'd go with Wilson without a moment's hesitation. I have limited experience with McGowan and that was not entirely positive. I've had several Wilson barrels and they've all been fine shooters.Another question for you guys. Im trying to pick a barrel brand to build this 20p off of. This will be for a bolt action rifle
