Buy the best custom barrel you can afford. Set up right and loaded right AR's shoot VERY accurately. Quality mechanical parts are key though.

The uppers that Robert Whitley builds have a very good reputation for shooting very well. With quality parts, properly assembled, finding the right load, and you doing your job, you should be in the 0.5's

You might also check out White Oak Armament. They offer varmint uppers and barrels in 20 practical and I have seen one of his 20 prac uppers shooting consistent 5 shot groups under 1/2". I also have personally had a couple of his 204 uppers/barrels and they are incredible.

Don't forget about the trigger. I see guys build a great upper and put it on a factory lower. You need a great trigger for the gun to shoot up to its potential.

Well under 0.5" is possible, based on Whitley's experience. This assumes a good trigger and bag-riders front and rear, with good rests. (Unfortunately, most AR guys don't use proper rests).

Compass Lake build me an upper in .204 Ruger with a Krieger barrel.

It would shoot dime size groups with factory Hornady ammo.

I put a 20 practical together last yr about this time. I used the Blackhole weaponry barrel in 20 inch. It shoots really good with H335 and Berger 32 gr.

I have a 20 practical upper from Mr. Whitley. Holds dime sized groups at 100 yards if I do my part. Great varmint round, I use the midway usa dog town bullets and N133 with very explosive results
