20 practical AR owners?

So I been very interested in this cartridge for a while. I'm not a fan of wildcats at all. But the advantages of this cartridge are very much worth it in comparison of the minimal work required loading it. So I wanted a lightweight semi auto varmint rifle. After much thought and research I decided to order a upper from Robert Whitley at AR-X Entireprises. It's a 20" 11 twist Krieger barrel thats .85" diameter after gas block. Should be nice and light for hunting. I already own a Rock River lower with a ACE Skeleton stock. This Rock River has a great 2 stage trigger. I'm really thinking this build will be nice. I'm curious if anyone else owns one of these uppers. I haven't found much info online besides on AR-X homepage. I'm looking for more load data too. I found some for bolt guns, but not much for AR's. AR-X home page only shows 2 powders they use. I have lots of Benchmark powder. I'm thinking I'm gonna try out the 39 grain Blitzkings. Anyway, I would like to here from you guys that own these uppers or any 20P AR and what bullets and loads are working well for you guys. I need multiple starting points for these loads too. 2016 here we are! Thanks.

Some of my 20P loads in my AR15 build, 22" Black Hole Weaponry bbl, 1/11" tw
32g vmax/sierra, nosler bullets:
ALL sub moas, most in the .310"-.420" arena.
You can take 20 Tactical data and load from there, start 1-2g less though, same with 204 ruger data, but start 2-4g lower at least maybe more.
The below are over my chrony, may/ will shoot differently in your build of course.
24g 10x, 3782 fps
24g h4198, 4035 fps
23g h4198, 3816 fps
28g blc2, 3674 fps
28g w748, 3674 fps
28.5g cfe, 3710 fps
28g cfe, 3738 fps
24g BM, 3498 fps
26g BM, 3873 fps
26g Xtermintaor, 3775 fps
24g Xterminator, 3567 fps

I have one I bought from Robert a few years back. Tried his loads then tried a bunch of other powders, loads and bullets. Went back to what he recommended. I couldn't find anything better. I use VV133 with Vmax, 32s & 40s and SBK 32s & 39s. The 39 SBK shoots the best. An added plus with VV is it's cleaner. If you do acquire one, I think you'll be very satisfied with the accuracy.

I'm not sure I can add much more value than what has already been offered, but here goes . . . .

Both of my .20 Practical barrels (1:11 twist) do very well with IMR8208 XBR backing up the heavier bullets. I started at 25.5 and worked up from there and I didn't have far to go before I found what I was looking for. The Sierra 39gr. BlitzKings shot a little better for me than the 40gr. V-Maxs but both produced excellent accuracy.

I've settled on H4198 as the powder of choice for the lighter bullets, getting very good velocity and accuracy with the 32gr. offerings from Sierra and Hornady.

I love the Practical. Even the 'bad' loads were half-minute or better.

Awesome guys. This is exactly what im looking for. Thanks!
Forgot to add, the barrel on my RW upper is a 1-10 and the freebore is enough to use the heavier than 40gr bullets and still fit the magazine. I have not tried anything heavier than he 40s so can't comment on their suitability in the 1-10.

I have had a .20 Practical for a few years now and the first barrel is starting to show signs of wear affecting accuracy at 7,500 rounds. Mine is a Hart barreled rig and that is also what I will use as my replacement. It will shoot very tight with 40 V-Max, 39 Sierra Blitz King, 32 V-Max or 32 Nosler Unleaded Ballistic Tips - with the best powder for all in mine being Accurate LT-32. H4198 is probably second best. Very cool little cartridge.

You'll love a 20 Prac. I had a 20" upper built by Ritch and it shot amazing. The ONLY reason I got rid of it is I decided I wanted a 20 Prac bolt gun to make sure I could "see" hits through the scope. I regret getting rid of that upper but I must say my 20 Prac bolt gun built on a Savage 10 action with a BHW 20" barrel has been my absolute favorite rifle I've ever owned. I have confirmed kills out to 548 yards on Prairie Dogs, and 465 yards on crows. I've amazed a few guys on just how accurate this rifle is out to 400 yards and beyond. The 39gr Sierras have done extremely well for me as has the 32gr V-Maxs. PD's with the 32gr bullets within 250 yards is just plain fun to watch I must say. Initial brass prep was a little bit of a chore but now I have over 500 pcs of brass that is easy to load anytime I want to load some up. I use H322 loads right now but H335 did very well for me as well. I load for accuracy, not pure speed. My 39gr Sierra loads are with 24.2gr H322 and my 32gr Hornady loads are with 25.3gr H322. Have fun with this caliber!

Received my upper. I was gonna use my Rock River lower for it, but decided on buying a new lower. Do you guys know of a good lower? I read Mega makes a really nice lower. It's made from a solid piece of billet aluminum. I want it to be all ambi too. You guys have any info on a high end lower?

One thing to be careful of for an autoloader is when you neck down to 20, the brass gets longer (approx. .010") so if you're using milsurp or once or twice fired brass, there's a good possibility you'll end up with a few cases that are too long to chamber. Best policy is to trim. New brass shouldn't have a problem on first firing, but may want to trim after.

Looks like you got change back also, good deal!

My upper does reasonably well with IMR4198 and 32gr vmax. I'm going to try loading speer 39 TNT over H335 and see how it does.

Evening Guys,

Came across this thread and I need me some learnin. What may I ask is a "20P?" I suspect it COULD BE sorta of a 20 caliber rifle, but will someone PLEASE indulge me and explain what it is. I know from the pictures that its an AR style rifle, similar to a .223/5.56. But I'd like to know exactly what it is. Thx!

Alex

It's a .223 just neck sized down to a 20 cal. That simple

Thx guys. I've not heard of a straight .20 cal before, especially in a rifle. Guess I learned something new today.
