20 Practical 32 or 40-grainers?

Benchmark is another that shoots well in mine with 40s. 8208 gives best velo either accuracy being equal with benchmark. May have a fast 25" barrel but 8208 with 40 BIB drove 3988 average on 8 shot group. Makes a chuck plop pretty well at 250

I shoot the Vmax 32s Powder is the key. My favorite is 8208 but that's like looking for Unicorns.
Got some 8208 - 8 pounders from Natchez last week. On bullet choice, I never had a factory 12 twist that wouldn't shoot 39 Blitzkings well. Like searcher, I prefer them for longer shots in the wind; but for shorter range shooting, it pays to get the velocity up with the 32's. I never had any luck with the 40 V-Max in a factory 12T barrel. A custom 11 twist shoots them well enough, just maybe not quite as accurately as 39 BK's, but they do the job and are affordable and usually always available. On another .20 cal. round, I also wish Sierra would sell the 36 BK. My 20-222's (12T) shoot both the 32 and 39 well, but wish the 36 BK was available for the longer shots to get the velocity up a little from the 39's. Berger 36's don't have the BC for longer shots in the wind.

Out to 250 yards the 32 grainers if shooting over 250 yds use 39 or 40 Grain bullets, they are faster at that range than the 32's.Buck the wind much better ,less drop.

if it was me and just my opinion i would get 11 twist barrel and have best of everything. My 204r with factory 12 twist could not shoot the heavies. I had a new pac nor barrel put on with 11 twist and have zero regrets.
I would also go with little to no freebore

I'm working with the factory 12 twist and plan to shoot the 32 grain pill. I hearvyou though. Perhaps on a custom down the road..??

I'm still waiting on my 20 practical, but I'm going with 40gr vmax for PDs. The cost of the projectiles is nearly the same, the difference in trajectory out to 500 yds is less than an inch, but the 40gr bullet bucks the wind better. Under 300 yds, I'd say the difference isn't significant, but at 300 it starts to get noticeable. While I like speed, more speed also equals more heat and more barrel wear. For me, the only thing the 32gr offers is bigger velocity numbers which is only cool on paper. In the field, the 40gr matches or out performs it in every way.
