20 PPC powder choice

Anyone using H322 H335 H4198 or Benchmark shooting 32-40 gr. bullets... Hodgdon doesn't list the 20 ppc with the extreme powders and not much on the web... Appreciate it If you would share your pet load with the powders mentioned above...

I am using 28 gr of 8208 at present in my 20 PPC with 40 vmax and Benchmark at 27 gr behind the 40 vmax

I have used the powders you have listed but I consider all but Benchmark to be to fast.

These loads come with the usual caveat

What are the respective velocities on those two loads? I have a 20 PPC I need to finish up load development on this winter. Only tried one powder so far where both velocity and accuracy ended up being pretty bad. I do have Benchmark, 8208 and the 40gr VMax on hand

4000 fps with both that is with a Sako S491and Lapua 220 Russian cases.
You may be able to squeeze a little more with a custom action

There are some .20ppc loads listed on the main page in the .20 cal section. They were also using varget with a 40gr which might be worth a try?

I'm looking to run 50s and have benchmark and varget on hand. I hear a lot of people mention 8208 but am trying to avoid adding another powder to the shelf.
Looking at the manuals 8208 max loads are getting higher fps but are also running higher pressure. Is it really that much better in accuracy and velocity?

Just trying to hold good stock of a few powders instead of collecting a can of every different type!

I like IMR 8208 with both 32gr and 40gr bullets in the .20 PPC. My second choice would be VV N-133. I am shooting LT-32 in my .204 Ruger because I whore out the PPC, but I have not shot it enough to tell. I evaluate powders starting at 300 yards (Walt Berger said that learning begins at 300 and I take that to heart) and shoot to 540 yards at the back of the range. H-335 is not temperature stable. I have extensively (more than 8 pounds) shot Benchmark. It gives a wide pressure curve with a large variance in velocities. The most puzzling powder I have ever shot. H-322 is a fast burn rate. It will get you a steep pressure spike so be careful. It might be the most temperature stable of the powders you list. I would bet on 32 gr or Walt's 35gr bullets performing with H-322 over the 40s.

I have measured the water volume of Nosler .204 Ruger (Norma) and .20 PPC cases made from Norma .22 PPC and Lapua .220 Russian. The volume is the same. You can use .204 Ruger data interchangeably. With the same 8 twist 4 groove barrel by the same maker, I can get the same velocity with a half grain less powder in the PPC case and better accuracy. I believe the shape of the case matters.

Case capacities are almost identical between the two but the PPC can generally be pushed harder than .204 brass.
