20 ppc or 20 br

tdoyka

oh crap!!! better buy another one.
which is better? why? (brass, powder, bullets, range, barrel wear, etc.)

Both are excellent cartridges.

The BR will have a slight edge in velocity for 55 & 60 gr bullets. The PPC will have better barrel life.

You could split the difference and go with the 20 Grendel (http://shootersnotes.com/articles/20-grendel/). This cartridge was designed to not require neck turning when starting with 6.5 Grendel brass.

Case volume is intermediate between the two. Velocities too when running at the same pressures. The throat is designed to allow seating the 55 gr Berger far enough out so that there is just 1 caliber of shank in the neck.

40gr. and below PPC.

Above 40GR. do the BR.

I had a .20BR that HAMMERED with 39gr. BKings.bit it was WAY too much.....

I never believed in overbores so my vote would most definitely go to the PPC. It too is way overbore but just a bit closer to the "perfect" cartridge.

Hammer47 is right,... the PPC is as close to perfect for 20 you can get if you want a cartridge that will handle all bullets with some measurable degree of effectiveness. It will scream 32's and 40's at light speed without destroying barrels in under 1500 rounds,... and it will safety drive the Berger 55 3550+ with the right load data. Do the barrel on a 9" twist and don't look back.

How about a 20-220 Beggs?

I don't know anyone that's done one. I shoot a 220 Beggs and really like it. It has the same case capacity as a 22-100 short PPC.

So, (I think) a 20 Beggs would be even less over-bore than a straight 20 PPC.

sure would like to find some 50 and 55 grn Bergers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These are great in the PPC.
May be time to just do a .22 AR instead.
