20 caliber

I had a 20 BR sold it kick myself for that but needed money at the time now want to build or rebarrel one of my other rifle I loved my 20 BR so what I’m asking is that still a good direction to go or are there other options in the 20 calibers I want to keep the the same fps speed & accuracy my old 20 BR had a 9 twist barrel so I could shoot about any bullet .

I've been through several 20BR's...all with 30* shoulders and 9-twist bbls. L.Sherm has built an improved version that he has had really good luck with. I've seen one of his groups, and it's REALLY good! Talk to him. He's always helpful.

Both Douglas and Krieger have made 20 Titan barrels for me. (Todd Kindler's necked down 6.5 Grendel)

I had them made for the 55 grain 20 caliber Berger bullet. They also shot the 50 grain Berger extremely well.

Impressive performance on targets and Prairie Dogs. Only drawback is you need a PPC bolt head.

Easy enough to do with Savage, harder to do with Remington actions.

If you’re planning on shooting the 55 grain Berger (sounds like you are) then an improved version of the BR case could give you a bit more flexibility. Most folks find the sweet spot for that bullet somewhere in the 3,750 FPS range. That speed can certainly be reached with a standard BR case but you’ll be pressing on the gas pedal pretty hard.

Thanks guys good information

Gabe22BR is good info to, him and I run the exact same combo. 20BRA, 9TW barrel RL15, 450 primers and Berger 55's. I run mine at 3730FPS and its not even stepping on it hard it just shoots extremely well there.
I tested 15.5 a little bit it did show promise took .1 more to achieve the same velocity.
H4350 and RL16 wouldnt go anywhere no matter how much powder I put in the case.

I use Bat actions for all 20BRAI- dasher speeds w/ less powder
So a single shot for me
I have a thread on here where I did the leg work, on the 20BRAI , trying different powders, velocities, seating depths for the 55gr Berger.
I shoot competition 600yd BR.. and have won with it !!!

If your going to a 700 clone, repeater, the BR might feed better, Greg (Orkan) can probably fill ya in on which would be better there..
1-9” twist - 20” barrel min. is what I’ve found , to be the shortest… I would go
I have a 30” I shoot in competition, my varmint rifles wear 26”

I use RL 15 / N203B powder, w/ 450 primers

Simple to make, use, load for..
I use a Harrell’s sizing die, and a Wilson micro seater
Also have a Newlon sizer die reamed w/ my under sized reamer & a whidden seater reamed with my chamber reamer..

Your velocity???
Have you improved the shoulder??

Hope this sparks more interest in 20BR.
Glad I went with a 28” tube after seeing above comments.
Finish case prep this weekend.
Now if the weather would cooperate a little.

20 Titan info..

No improved shoulder

My average velocity using AlexA brass, (Lapua made for Alexander Arms), CCI 405, and 55 grain Bergers

Douglas 30" Barrel 1-9 twist

Benchmark 3550-3600 FPS STD 10
R-15 3700-3750 STD 7
R-17 3600 STD 20

I've pushed the round to over 3800FPS, but the brass only held up for 2 reloads.

My AR loads are much slower as pressures are too high for the gas gun to handle.

Todd helped a lot when I had questions.
