.20 cal. Wild cat question

I had a S&W 6" 22 Jet and plugs and muff's were still not enough. Cool round on Ghogs and PD's. but LOUD for sure.

I had one also. Before I could drive, I would save my money to buy a gun and my Dad would drive me 50 miles to the coolest gun store I've ever been in to do the purchase.

The Jet had a 6" barrel and stainless inserts to shoot 22LR. It was loud, but when you're young, you're not smart enough to know the danger of that. Mine would have cases stick in the chamber often - clean or dirty, dry or oiled. So I sold it or traded it, and never missed it, or wanted one to replace it.

Not what you asked, but a .30 carbine case may have more upside to scratch your small case 'cat itch.
If I just had to do something different, maybe use a 222 case for parent. Then mash it down as far as you like. No odd bolt face situations. (However, I have no idea of what a 357 Sig bf needs to be.)
Eichelberger had a series on cartridges on the Carbine case ranging from .12, .14, .17, .20 and .22. I found this in my what not box of brass ideas. Not sure what was on my mind when I did it.It’s a 222 necked down to .20.D29AE8A8-B8EA-4891-B302-D3F6A4C8B35C.jpegA case length of 1.250, with a .900 base to shoulder length.

That's just a little bit smaller than a 20 Vartarg, which is 1.400 and 1.066 respectively on those dimensions, so maybe the ~18gn charge weight in the 20 Vartarg drops to 15gn and you lose ~200fps. 40gn VMax at 3300fps or so, based on scaling down what my Vartarg will do, still seems like it would be a pretty fun setup! How hard was that guy to form?

I shoot a 22/256 Martini which is basically made from 357 brass necked down to 22. It's very similar to the old 22 Super Jet or improved jet. Given that I have to anneal to get down to 22, I doubt that necking down to 20 caliber would be an issue. However, performance wouldn't be much different than 20VT except that the rimmed case would be advantageous for Martini and some other single shot actions.
