20 cal coyote bullet

Hey I'm wonder between the 39 gr blitzking, 40 gr berger, and 40 gr vmax what is the best coyote bullet. Also any info on what one is the most fragile and what one would have the most Penetration fired at equal velocity's. Thanks

I have shot the 39 bk for several years coyote hunting and had excellent results, also tried the 32 vmax they didn't work very well exploded on impact, the 39 bk with reloader 10x is very accurate load

Just the opposite of ^^^. My coyote load is the 32g NBT & 32g Zmax.
Both loaded w/blc2, 3674 fps, both shoot/print exactly the same in the 20P I built.
No coyote has got away to date, all 1 shot drops & out to 280 yards also.
Not a single exit hole via broadside/frontal/shoulder shots.

Last coyote I shot was with the Blizking, through several rows of thick bean tops and that good-sized one was DRT; I was impressed. The V-Max - even though it has a thicker jacket - seems to have a reputation of splashing on coyotes; more of a varmint than a predator bullet IMO. Would think it safe to say that frangibility of the Big 3 plastic tips from most (splashes) to least (more penetration) would be: V-Max, Blitzking, (Nosler) Ballistic Tip.
As far as the Berger, the 35 grainer is the hot setup for 'yotes. I just recently got some loaded up over (compressed) Varget and that combo sure is accurate out of my LVSF, but no coyote yet.
I know you asked about 40-grainers specifically, but frankly some of the appeal of the 39 SBK and 35 Berger could be the fact they are accurate in factory 12-twist .204R barrels, of which many don't stabilize the 40s well.

A few years back I hit 4 coyotes one morning and did not get a one. I was shooting the 32 gr. Sierras. I hit was a bad hit into the hind quarter, but I thought the other 3 should have been dead. I knocked one of them down 3 times and he still hobbled off. If I were younger I could have run him down. I went straight home and called Sierra and ask them what gives. The tech. to me that the Sierra bullets have a jacket that is .009 thick and not for coyote size game. I ask abt. the 39 gr. bullets he said same jacket and he would not recommend them rather foe coyote. The Hornady bullets have a .014 thick jacket and hold together far better. From what I hear though, the 35 gr. and up Berger bullets are the real ticket. I went back to the 223 for most of my hunting.

I shoot the 39 gr sierra in 204 ruger they hit harder, less wind drift and more accurate. Tried the 32gr didn't kill as good as the 39ers. 40 grain nosler is a good bullet also. For me it"s the 39 blitzking.

I only shot 2 coyotes with 39 blitz kings and both bullets blew up and coyotes ran off. On the first one the hair blew off ten feet in the air.

I tried the 35gr. Berger HP for about a season and a half and had to many that didn't stay put. I gave up on them. They were thought to be the pick of the litter but my experience with them was unacceptable.

I can tell you that the 40 Berger kills coyotes DRT when shot by my 20 Tactical Improved, they start out right at 4000 fps.My barrel is a 13 twist and the 40 Berger is the only 40 I know of that is accurate and stable in a 13 twist. If I had a 12 twist I would try the VMax,it does'nt work in my 13.

STS MAN I HAD GREAT RESULTS WITH THOSE 35 GRS HP IN MY 204 LVSF WHAT LOT# WERE THOSE BULLETS IF U STILL HAVE THEM

The 40 gr. Berger is going to be my choice for my next build...20 Practical. Geez! I haven't finished my current build, (6mm-284) and I'm ready to start another. This madness has to stop!

204R and above velocity stay away from the 39 blitz for coyote. The BIB bullet works well, as does the 40 NBT and Berger 40's. For 20p drop down to the 35 Berger, haven't tried the 32's the 32 NBT looks interesting and wondering if the 39 blitz or 40 vmax for the 20p would be the correct mix of speed and fragmentation.

40g BIB
40g Nosler ballistic tip

4000 fps takes a tougher bullet

Consider a back Burner project: 22/204 with 53-55g bullets at 3700 fps, 1/4" group accuracy.
